[not piracy] has anyone made a homebrew-only pkgi txt file?

i'm looking for a config file that's already compiled the most relevant homebrew with the links to their github releases.

i could do this myself but i guess it would be more convenient if it already existed.

Trying to find a PRO-C guide (I know it's outdated)

I'm documenting LittleBigPlanet custom servers. I don't have a PSP. In short, the people who made the custom servers for the PSP Edition have stated that their software to patch the game is only stable on PRO-C, but they link to the pspunk guide which has already removed PRO-C and only shows an ARK-4 guide. Same goes for the ConsoleMods wiki.

I've found the last archived version of pspunk still containing the PRO-C guide, but I wanted to double-check and ask you if this guide is still relevant, or if there is any other more up-to-date guide on the matter.

My Custom Servers Megapost Needs Improvement. I Need Your Help!

I made the pinned post about custom servers. I think it's been serving its purpose well enough, but this last month a lot of things have changed with the community landscape. On top of that, I haven't yet covered Vita and PSP.

So next up is my to-do. I'd be thankful if you could share your opinions, info and/or useful links.

  • PSP and Vita (and its emulators)
    • Provide links to the right documentation for both console jailbreaks and patching
    • Any quirks that are not on the documentation can be helpful too. And, what things are different to PS3 custom servers? (e.g. do all of them use join keys?)
    • I haven't completely understood what's Bonsai's state of support for those consoles. What does it mean exactly that Vita is currently "unofficially supported"?
  • Troubleshooting
    • I'm not yet comfortable with my approach to this. I've pointed to the places where you can get help with custom servers, which is fine; but on its own that feels a little incomplete.
    • Also, because of people asking redundant or unclear questions when looking for support here, I've made a sorta guideline for the way you can get better help, but then realised "no one is gonna want to read this", lol. The problem is, there's a lot of things that can go wrong, specially if you're using an emulator, and pointing to all the possible issues might get messy. So what would you think should be the way to address that problem?
      • A "common issues" section is something I've thought about, but as said, there's so many variables that I'm not sure that it would be possible.
  • PlayBredum (mainly their Karting support)
    • I've made a section for them, but it's still missing a bit of info. If you've been frequent there or even are a manager of the server, your input could be helpful.
    • Is it true that Reddit deletes the links to that server because they're russian? I haven't tested it there because I don't wanna risk getting that post deleted.
  • LBPOnline
    • Please don't make this comment section a drama discussion, I wanna stick to the most objective information we have.
    • I've already made a section called "About LBPOnline (the Project of That Name) Safety". I have not put LBPOnline next to the other servers because I don't think it should be looked at like "just another server", both because of controversy and unknown risks.
    • I wanna provide the most information on LBPOnline so that users make an informed decision whether they wanna use it or not. The drama is unavoidable, and while I wouldn't wanna link to every Drive folder that's come out, I've thought of providing a link to John4Lul's video as there seems to be a consensus on its objectivity, and maybe provide the most updated info on what's been happenning to LBPO since that video came out.

That's all. I'll be reading your thoughts!

As everyone is posting their Restitched outfits I thought I'd share mine :P (and a little thought on Restitched and LBP)

Really cool to see some good progress on Restitched. I don't really see it as the "savior of the LBP community" or anything, just a cool new game which happens to be heavily inspired by LBP. Even if it comes out and it's the best thing ever, I'll probably still be playing LBP on custom servers as frequently as I do now. But yeah, really excited to see it come into shape.

A Repost of Bonsai's announcement about their work on LBP PS4/5 custom servers

^(This was copied from Bonsai's Announcement channel on their Discord Server.)

Bonsai PS4/5 - In Development!

Hey all, I know we promise not to promote things that aren't a done deal yet in here but thanks to recent progress (and public commits on Refresh) I can confirm that we are indeed working on PS4/5 server connectivity for Bonsai!

As of now we have managed to get a few developers to join online LBP3 via Bluesphere (Thanks Jorby!) on PS4 and PS5. This is a major step forward though the functionality is still in its infancy (player connections etc.)

The devs are working incredibly hard getting the wheels on this train! Considering last week this was all speculation and now we've had actual connectivity is rather impressive.

https://preview.redd.it/qhu1nxjr6r0h1.png?width=1248&format=png&auto=webp&s=7bdd9dea616cd00367092cb8caa3bb91b2890a3b

As always these roadmaps for new functionality take time and we will be looking to implement documentation and guides in due course as we move deeper into the development of the server. And we will share our successes and setbacks as always.

If you feel you have something to contribute to this new aspect of the project get in touch with the devs, they always welcome new hands on deck!

But for now as I advised in the last announcement, watch this space, we're making tremendous progress!

Why you shouldn't even consider going back to the LBPO Discord Server now that Ayee has "left"

After this post I doubt I'll talk much more about the drama in this sub, the info is already out there so you can make up your mind on your own. Everything has already been said.

If you think there's a chance that the LBPO project can be recovered, I'll compare the situation with another similar thing that happened to another project which was handled much better.

I'm talking about a project called IISU. Doesn't have anything to do with LBP, it's a project for a nice-looking interface to handle all your emulators in one place. If you don't know, the week it was announced a lot of ugly stuff appeared about the leader of the project. The team fired the guy and made a public announcement condemning his actions, clarifying he no longer took part, and even showing some compromises they were ready to make, like making the software a bit more open-source.

Now look at LBPO's server. They completely nuke the server, wait a few days, Ayee silently leaves, they slowly open the channels back, clarify nothing about the state of the project ("soon"), don't address the giant elephant in the room and don't make any statement, and Mr. "Dave" (not an alt at all) who joined the server on the day of its creation is now the owner. Also they ban anyone that mentions anything about Ayee like they would expect otherwise giving they haven't addressed it. Epic remains in the server even though he has been exposed as one of the main hackers, no addressing, no apologising.

On top of all of that, the project remains closed-source. They say they wanna find a "successor". What is this, the Kingdom of England? Release the source code to the community! I wouldn't trust them to hand over any type of file that doesn't have the exact lines of code at plain sight.

Unless they do what they should do, don't give them any more attention. They're trolls. All of you, Get Real.

He has incredible interviews with the people who worked on LBP and LBP content creators with less that 1K views. This one with Mark Healey for example finally gave me the explanation of why exactly the Negativitron is a vacuum cleaner.

He also makes some general LBP, Restitched and Minecraft content that I'd say is quite good too. So go give him some love.

For info about playing online with custom servers, refer to my post about them.

TL;DR: If you can't connect, first check the FAQ and Troubleshooting guides that are on Bonsai and Beacon, which will probably have the answer to your problem. If it doesn't, check online if someone else had your problem. If you don't find anything, then ask for help in the subreddit, Discord server or forum you see most fit. If you feel your questions don't get good answers, then this post is for you!

Introduction

I've been passionately assisting people to get into custom servers for at least half a year now. I want the most people I can to be able to play online. Of course, to some people it's challenging because they're even new to the concept of an USB stick, and that's fine. But I'd like to leave this here to try to level the ground so that the questions being asked are a little more specific and less likely to be already answered.

Remember that anyone here or in any LBP internet hub will want to help you, but also that at doing so they're taking some of their free time to do so. No one is paying anyone to help you. So, to give value to that time, do your part! Help us help you. This post is for that.

I'm no mod so don't feel like this is me making rules up. It's more of a manual. It will make you better at getting help with custom servers, yes, but also with any other unrelated issue you have post about on the internet.

^(I'm a little Linux nerd, for that reason this post is very inspired and at some points copied-and-pasted by) ^(How To Ask Questions The Smart Way)^(. Hackers (meaning computer geeks)) might be overly harsh for a community centered around a fluffy guy jumping wood blocks and grabbing sponges but, leaving aside their language, their way of thinking shaped the way that I help and get help on the internet nowadays, and I do better at both thanks to them.

Before You Ask

If you have an issue, before posting:

  • Try to find an answer by searching for posts.
  • Try to find an answer by googling.
  • Try to find an answer by reading the documentation for Bonsai, Beacon, your emulator, etc.
  • Try to find an answer by reading a FAQ from Bonsai, Beacon, your emulator, etc. (Bonsai and Beacon have their FAQs and Troubleshooting guides on their Discord servers).
  • Try to find an answer by trying things and diagnosing your problem. Do things step-by-step and in order, which might at best will fix the issue and at worst make you better understand what is failing.
  • If you have one a friend who was able to patch successfully, try to find an answer by asking them.

And if by then you still have to make a post, clarify that you've done all of these things first! It's nice to see you did some research.

Doing a Google search on the text of whatever error message you get might well take you straight to fix documentation or post.

Think what you wanna ask and post cold-mindedly. If you ask a vague question, you’ll either get a vague answer or at best an interrogation to find out about info you could've already posted. But if you give us details and context, we can provide a useful and quick answer.

When You Ask

Choose the Right Place o Post

You most likely won't get much help if you:

  • Ask for help here about your game you got from somewhere other than official means not working. That is not an LBP issue as much as a yarr-ahoy one, and there are many subreddits dedicated to getting games that way, many related to the console you're on/emulating.
  • Ask for help here about an issue with your emulator. You should ask those in the subreddit or forum of the emulator.
  • Should be obvious, but to exagerate the point: ask for help in e.g. the Beacon Discord server asking about a Bonsai issue.

Use Meaningful and Specific Titles

Here's where you give the general information of what you need help on. If you do this correctly it will give everyone a quick idea of what your problem is and quickly grab their attention. And even better, people with the same issue will be able to quickly find it when googling their problem!

As an example, I'll rank from best to worst these titles on the same issue:

  1. Bonsai RPCS3: 403 (Failed to Sign In)
  2. 403 error
  3. Can't connect
  4. Help
  5. Please help

I guess you get the point.

Be precise and informative about your problem

These are questions that probably should already be answered on your post's body:

  • What console/emulator are you using? What game are you using? What have you used to patch the game?
  • What were you trying to do? What did you do and what did the computer/console/program do (CHRONOLOGICALLY)? What failed?
  • What guide were you following?
  • What have you tried to do to fix the issue? Where did you search online for answers? Did you find anything there?
  • What have you found by diagnosing the issue?

Final Words

So that's it. Thank you for taking the time to read this, it took me a whole evening! I hope that this helped you, and that you'll be able to make better posts and get better and quicker assistance.

I'll repost what Bonsai put on their Announcements Discord channel because I've noticed that a lot of posts that are being made here ask questions that they answered all in one text.

Some of these things only apply to Bonsai, while others are general to all community custom servers.

And some attention to both PS Vita and PS4/5 players also.

>Announcement
Hey all, it's been a pretty turbulent few days in the community and with that we just want to check in and reassure you of what we have been working on and what we hope to achieve as soon as possible for our members.

>Where We Are
Read-Only Currently Bonsai is in Read-Only mode. We had to activate this due to a cascade of security risks that all seemed to rear up at the same time. We have been working hard on these and I can say with confidence we are 80% of the way there to resolving these. We are bolstering our suite of moderation tools. Once this is done and had been properly tested by the moderators, and discussions between the mods and the dev team are finalised to ensure we have all the tools we need and want, we will move to remove Read-Only.
Vita Connectivity Patchwork vita making progress recently but it will still take a bit before official support comes back. Testing is underway to this effect though and we hope to get some good news to you soon.

>Challenges
Dive-In We are hard at work to tackling some of the security issues that led to Dive-In being turned off in the server. These issues are the main obstacles to ensuring the safety of the feature.
Scripts There was the risk of p2p scripting. This has been the main drive of our work behind the scenes recently and I can happily say we have made tremendous progress in stopping these scripts from being a problem.
Force Join This is the more difficult issue to solve, at the moment we are not able to stop force-joining. This is where a bad actor initiates a forced join to a player, regardless of whether you are accepting invites. Where we have some solace in scripting being blocked now, we cannot stop these bad apples from showing you inappropriate or illegal content should they wish, though this too is a risk with dive in. We are expanding our moderation tools to help with this but for now force join is a task we haven't been able to rectify just yet. This is something we and the devs are still discussing as to what we can do to minimise exposure for now. Of course as with all development our team are volunteers and if you believe you have the skills or solutions to our challenges get involved!
LBPOnline
Now of course this has been the hot button topic recently and instead of drip feeding our position to you we feel it is best to just put our stance here and move on. To be clear, the personalities of those involved in LBPO's development are not something we would like to speculate on, I'd rather let those individuals show themselves for who they are without adding our voice to the mix. For us though the allure of a one sticker fix to connectivity to the servers sounds enticing, the security risks of using such an exploit on PSN are too unknown. It is also the case that the LBPO project is closed source so we would have no way of determining what exploits you would be at risk to nor would we be able to with confidence say this is a safe method of getting online.
Of course there is risk inherent with all projects such as this but for LBPO, the elusiveness and lack of confidence is enough for us to recommend you do not use the sticker exploit and get your LBP online fix through us here at Bonsai or the people over at Beacon.
Where We Are Going
Now of course all of the drama of recent can lead to worry but I'm here to assure you we have plans in place for where we want to take the project and what we have lined up in due course. The devs continue to work through our list of support features and do so wonderfully! If you see them chatting in here be sure to give your thanks to them for keeping the lights on. Our current future plans include:
- Looking into the level archive and how we can expand our accessibility for you all so it feels like good old LBP.
- Security expansions to ensure we can rapidly react to incident on the server.
- Website work to make it as user friendly and accessible as possible. Community events! We haven't forgotten about this we just need to sit down and plan one.,
PS4/PS5 Connectivity
We know the major draw of LBPO was functionality on PS4/5. While this hasn't been an objective of ours, we will look to find a way, as we always do, to offer this in some way, please note though it will be unlikely to come in the form of the sticker exploit as we cannot in good conscience put your PSN accounts at risk. Watch this space though, I hope this goes some way to assure you we haven't forgotten about you all, and in these crazy times you can rely on us to just be chill, vibing and keeping the lights on. - Staff

And regarding PSN bad-faith messages people have been receiving:

>Bonsai Impersonation Warning
Due to the recent events and drama that you all are likely aware of, there have been bad actors impersonating us, sending inappropriate messages to users. If you see anyone with usernames like "BonsaiNews" or similar, these accounts DO NOT belong to us or anyone on our team. Bonsai does not have a PSN or Discord account to message users like this. REPORT and BLOCK accounts messaging you out of the blue pretending to be us. Their message is guaranteed to be nefarious. The following are the only ways we may contact users directly:
- In the discord server, by a Staff member
- A direct message, by a Staff member (After being contacted by a user)
Finally, if you are suspicious of a message or user, you are always welcome to contact a Staff member directly.

Woke up and found out about all of this. Oh yes that didn't go well I know. We'll probably have to wait until we see PS4/5 custom servers. But if you actually seriously believe that LBPOnline was the last hope for the community, I understand how you feel, but let me tell you it's not.

On PS3 (also RPCS3 if you can emulate it), PS Vita and I guess PSP? We DO have custom servers that are still very active and are NOT closed-source vaporware! They are quite active and there's still very good creators going around. Here's a post I made explaining everything about that. There is the issue of Dive-In not being supported, but if you join their Discord you'll find a lot of people (mostly on PS3 and RPCS3) willing to play with random people like you, so you can go make some friends!

Were you hyped about LBPOnline because you wanted to play old levels? Well no worries, as that was based on the level archive which was made by the community. Do you not wanna use a computer and an usb stick every time you wanna play an old level? Well, the custom server Bonsai has a feature called Play Level by Hash which allows you to grab levels from that archive, click a button, and quickly open them in your game!

I can also recommend the Bonsai list for cool servers which lists some Discord servers which are sometimes focused on modding the game if you're tech-savvy, and sometimes just servers focused on making friends or creating levels.

We don't need Sony to keep the game alive. We don't need Ayee to keep the game alive. We just need OURSELVES. So go support the right people of this wonderful community so we can keep playing, creating and sharing.
