Have mercy on me, for I know not what I have done.

Put simply, I goofed up. I was told that using olive oil would be suitable seasoning, so I did three rounds at 400 at half an hour each, and the finally lasting a whole 60 minutes. granted, in retrospect I probably used way too much.

This has left me with the ugly shiny spot that you see thus. taking the advice I saw given to people who made the same mistake. I used a mix of steel wool, coarse kosher salt, and Barkeepers Friend to try to nullify as much as I could, only able to dull it a slight amount.

Before I make a further ass of myself, what cast-iron aficionado make of the situation?
