I've noticed this practice quite often lately with lot of tradesmen having fake reviews. How you you pick a reliable one?

Roofer left his drone on a passageway; I stepped on it and was invoiced for a new one

A roofer used a drone to inspect our roof, then left it on the paved passage while we continued talking and looking up at the roof. I did not see it and accidentally stepped on it.

I verbally offered to pay for the repair, but never agreed to replace it or accepted full responsibility. The company later said their employee could not repair it and sent a Google screenshot showing a new one at €299. They have now invoiced me for the full €299 without providing a professional repair assessment or information about the drone’s age and value.

Can they charge me the full cost of a new drone without my agreement? Should depreciation and their responsibility for leaving it in a passageway be considered?

I intend to dispute the invoice and refer the matter to our family liability insurer. Is that the right approach?

Lavish EU private party in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, Brussels. Who’s paying for this?

Yesterday, at a mansion in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre where I presume eurocrats from a large EU country live, a lavish private party was thrown.

There was live music, private security, butlers at the entrance, and expensive cars with CD plates arriving. Parking on both sides of the main road was blocked. And on top of that, there was a police car with two officers there apparently providing security.

At the entrance there was a sign with the EU flag, a compass, and what I presume was the Hertenstein cross.

Does anyone know what this was, and who is paying for all of this? More specifically: why are public police officers being used for security at what looks like a private party?

Tenant rights and responsibilities when the owner wants to sell the apartment we live in

We are near the end of our 9-year rental contract in Brussels, and the owners are trying to sell the apartment we currently live in.

We do not want to block the sale or create problems. We understand that visits and communication are part of the process, and we want to cooperate reasonably. However, the owner’s approach feels quite pressuring.

We are also in a busy period ourselves, as we are looking for a new place and preparing to move. We cannot always reply immediately to every email or message, but the owner seems to expect urgent responses. They have also suggested that, if we do not reply quickly, they can decide the visiting schedule themselves and that we are impeding the sale.

I have a few questions:

  • Is there a normal or legally expected timeframe for tenants to respond to emails from the owner?

  • What is considered a reasonable number of visiting hours per week while the tenant is still living in the apartment?

  • Do visiting hours need to be agreed with the tenant, or can the owner impose them?

  • What happens if we do not agree on the proposed visiting schedule?

  • If the requests become excessive or the communication feels too pressuring, where can we get specialized advice or mediation?

  • Can the owner list the apartment for sale and organize visits before the end of the one month during which we can exercise our right to buy?

Any advice is appreciated.

The owner is a pensioner and seems to be in a hurry, while also having more time available than we do. We want to remain cooperative, but we also need reasonable boundaries and clarity on what is normal or legally required.

Any advice is appreciated.

The shock and horror that VDAB has limited funds while at the same time finding out that VDAB is wasting a lot of money because it's paid by attempt not by succeeded application. So people can take out test up to 5x while knowing with certainty after the first one there's no way they can pass (language tests).
