I’ve had so many expenses lately, so I’m trying to avoid adding any new subscriptions. Recently, I’ve been testing out some free vpns. My main use is browsing the web and accessing region-restricted content. I looked at a lot of reddit recommendations, but honestly a lot of them felt sponsored.. so I just tried a few myself. figured I’d share in case someone else is looking too.
Proton was the first one I tried because it’s recommended everywhere. It feels reliable, and the unlimited data is great, but the free servers can be a bit frustrating. Connection speeds are hit or miss, especially during peak hours.
Windscribe was next, also gets recommended everywhere, just like Proton lol. It has a better selection of server locations, but the data cap is clearly a downside. It’s fine for occasional use, but I wouldn’t recommend keeping it on all day.
X-VPN was a bit of a surprise. I tried it because someone mentioned its free plan offers unlimited data and lets you choose server locations. So far, it’s been decent for web browsing and everyday use.
TunnelBear and Hotspot Shield are just average. The free data runs out way too fast. They don’t feel like products you can rely on for regular use.
If you just want a simple on/off toggle, Cloudflare Warp is decent, but it’s not great if you need to select a specific country or region.
Right now I’d probably keep Proton, Windscribe, and X-VPN on the list.
Am I missing any other good free vpns? no ads or spam plz.
