Are colorwork socks always going to be harder to get on your feet, or is it a skill issue on my end?

Are colorwork socks always going to be harder to get on your feet, or is it a skill issue on my end?

I’m doing my first colorwork socks and I’ve been trying them on as I go, and I can get them over the heel but I really have to give them a good tug. I’m thinking of starting them over since I obviously don’t want socks that are a pain to put on. But also, I know colorwork is never going to be as stretchy as stockinette so I don’t want to have unrealistic expectations for how stretchy they should be - I read this blog post where the author says in her experience colorwork socks can’t really be pulled on and off as easily as a plain stockinette sock.

People who have successfully made colorwork socks, do you experience any resistance when pulling them on your feet? Is this a fact of colorwork socks or do I just need to loosen my floats?

Do sock blockers stretch out the ribbing?

I plan on gifting a lot of socks this year and so am thinking of getting sock blockers, but the one thing that confuses me is whenever I see pictures online, the ribbing is also stretched over the sock blocker. I thought you weren’t supposed to stretch the ribbing when you block the sock, but also these seem widely used so maybe it’s not the issue I think it is?

Does tension even out better when knitting in the round vs when knitting flat?

This is not really about any particular project, but I remember hearing somewhere that when knitting flat, you can expect tension to even out across a row, but not between rows (eg if one entire row is very tight and the row above it is very loose, they’re not going to even each other out). I was just curious if this means tension evens out better when knitting in the round, because it’s basically all one giant row?

Sock stitches are tilted?

Hello, I have just finished making the Vanilla Magic Loop Socks by Crazy Sock Lady. I followed the pattern as written and the sock fits fine, but for some reason the toe seems to not align with the heel. The heel fits like a glove and always goes on exactly right, but when I try to align the toe to fit right, the stitches go diagonal (1st pic) and if I want them to go straight, the toe fits wrong (second pic). Not sure what caused this or how to fix it in the next sock, any tips?

Help on the best way to adjust the row count in this pattern?

I’ve been following this tutorial, and I’m at the part from 6:45 to 12:13, where she makes the upper right front of the sweater.

When I originally did the gauge swatch, I had the right number of stitches but not the right number of rows (I had 20 rows per 4 inches, she had 17). So when I made the first part of the sweater, I multiplied her 33 rows by 20/17 to get 39 rows. Now, I wanted to do the same thing here, but it’s not exactly just a matter of adding more rows since she’s also doing increases in this portion of the sweater. I would only need to add 2 additional rows (her 12 * 20/17 ≈ 14) to get the same length, but I’m not sure if I can just tack those on at the end.

Basically, I just wanted to hear how other knitters would handle this situation. Ignore it since it’s only 2 rows and won‘t make that much of a difference? Add them on after the 12th row? Incorporate them throughout the 12 rows?

Best way to seal a collage that will see a lot of wear and tear? It’s going to be a bookmark!

I was inspired by this type of bookmark, and want to make one myself, but I have some concerns about sturdiness/longevity. Obviously a bookmark shouldn’t expect to get thrown around too much, but it will still be rubbing against the pages and getting touched all the time. My initial is to use a sturdy base like cardstock and then mod podge down all my pictures and seal with more mod podge. However, I’ve seen people say they have issues with mod podge not drying fully and making colors bleed, and I obviously don’t want the bookmark to stick to the pages or bleed my pictures. Any tips?

the sun rising in the south on March 15??

I was watching Julius Caesar and one part just did not make sense to me in act 2 scene 1. Casca says “here, as I point my sword, the sun arises / which is a great way growing on the south / weighing the youthful season of the year.” Is he saying the sun rises in the south in the spring?? This is not true as far as I know (and googled). It seems like a throwaway line but it really confused me lol

Slip 1, knit 1 and slip 1, purl 1 rows are turning out really tight

I’m making Crazy Sock Lady’s vanilla sock and I got to the slip stitch heel flap part where you repeat rows of sl1/k1 and sl1/p1. For some reason it’s turning out really tight, when I haven’t had tension issues with the stockinette areas. This is my first time using slip stitch in a pattern - is this a common issue with the stitch, like in crochet? I can’t really see any way to control the tension of a slip stitch. Any tips?
