Hi, I have had an issue with this rental property I moved into last year.
For context, I live on a private street. On the small footpath out the front of my house is a manhole cover.
On christmas day, I went out to go to families and there was sewage/bathroom waste in the street coming from the manhole cover. I borrowed some drain rods and managed to kind of unblock it. I got Yorkshire Water to come out and they jetted it and told me that was all they could do as its a private street, it is the landlords responsibility.
I contacted the landlord and we got a company out to jet and diagnose the issue.
The guy told me that the pipe fitted is a U-bend gully and should not have any toilet waste going into it as it will block up.
He jetted it and cleared as much debris as he could. It again backed up into the street a few weeks later on Valentines Day.
I told the landlord what the guy had told me and he believed the guy was probably lying so wanted a second opinion.
I got another company to come out and take a look, he literally took one look and said it should not have a gully there. He also had a look under the neighbours manhole covers and their drain pipe was a standard straight pipe, as it should be.
Again I informed the landlord of his findings, yet still he hasnt called a company out to fix this issue.
He came out last weekend and had a go with rods and cleared as much debris as he could himself, but yet again it has obviously blocked up again.
It is now the 22nd of May and still this is an issue.
I am having to unblock it pretty much daily with drain rods and check it daily to make sure it doesnt overflow again.
Im reluctant to report it to council, environmental health etc as it will no doubt make the landlord cause me more problems.
Any advice is much appreciated. Just so sick of having to live like this. This is my first ever home I have rented myself after moving out from parents. Not a great experience haha!
