Assetto Corsa Rally head tracking mod (OpenTrack compatible)

Hey all, I posted my Evo head tracking mod in r/assettocorsaevo the other day and some people in the comments asked for a Rally version, so here it is.

https://github.com/itsloopyo/assetto-corsa-rally-headtracking

I've made these for lots of games, along with a free tracker for Android and iOS if you need one (although OpenTrack with a webcam works just as well) - it's all on my github profile.

Assetto Corsa EVO head tracking mod (OpenTrack compatible)

Hey folks, pardon my atrocious driving, but I made a head tracking mod for EVO to fill the gap until native tracking is implemented, you can get it here: https://github.com/itsloopyo/assetto-corsa-evo-headtracking

I've made these for loads of games, along with a free phone app that sends a cleaned up opentrack udp stream if you don't already have a tracker/webcam, it's all on my github profile.

I’ve spent most of my spare time this year trying to make flatscreen head tracking free, easy to use, and to cram it into a bunch of games that were never designed for it.

The basic idea is "VR-lite": using only a webcam or mobile phone, you move your head to look around while your mouse or controller continues to aim independently. I think it’s a great way to make games more immersive (while keeping your framerate and graphics cranked up), and I’d like to see it available in far more of them.

There are three main user-facing parts:

Headcam

A free iOS and Android app that turns your phone into an OpenTrack-compatible head tracker and ultra-low-latency video+audio streaming solution for OBS.

Enter your PC’s local IP, put the phone above or below your monitor, centre it and start tracking. It sends tracking data to your PC over your local network.

The iOS version is available now. The Android version is currently in closed testing (necessary before publishing on Play store - you can get immediate access by joining the testers group on google groups)

Lopari

Lightweight launcher and mod manager for games with head tracking support.

It finds any supported games you already have installed through Steam, Xbox, GOG and other launchers, then launches them with head tracking enabled. If a game needs one of my mods, Lopari handles that transparently - just click "Play with head tracking" and the game will be modded and started with head tracking enabled.

The mods

I’ve made OpenTrack-compatible head-tracking mods for dozens of games.

These all separate look from aim, so you can look around with your head without dragging the reticle away from whatever you’re aiming at. They are broken down into "Released" and "Pre-release" categories - released mods have been properly tested and polished, pre-release mods have not been tested adequately or have known bugs, but all are freely available for download now.

Every mod is also available individually on GitHub with install and uninstall scripts, so Lopari is an entirely optional convenience.

Do I need OpenTrack?

Not for my mods. Since the app filters sensor noise on your device and the mods all smooth incoming network traffic, Headcam can send tracking data directly to them.

ALthough you will still want OpenTrack for games with native head-tracking support - these likely do not take/smooth an OpenTrack UDP feed directly.

I need some Android feedback

Google requires Android apps to go through a closed test before they can be published publicly.

You can join the testers group here.

I’d love to hear:

  • What phone or tablet you used
  • How well tracking performed
  • What broke
  • What was confusing or annoying

(I need to gather this info in order to have the app approved for release on the Play store proper)

Although I am running a patreon and have an IAP in the app (for some video streaming bells and whistles) - everything related to head tracking is 100% free. I’m building this because I think head tracking is great and should be available in more than just sims. I want anybody who wants it to be able to jump right in without opening their wallet.

Which titles would you like to see next?
