Been working on a small stockpile of Astro A40s since they’re out of production and I’ve been using a40s ever since Gen1 maybe even Gen0. Anyways I came upon these pro issued versions that as far as I could find were designed specifically for main stage events at CoD World League. Pretty stoked as I got a good deal on em too considering they all came with mixamps. They’re quite different from retail A40 TRs. The speaker grilles are sealed and they have mod kit cushions and speaker tags glued in. The mic isn’t supposed to be removable but I tested the three sets I got and one mic didn’t work. Went at it with a drill and was able to get it out without damaging anything else. Was able to carefully pull a tag from one of the other sets to make a complete closed back set which actually makes me really happy since I use a Quadcast and I could feel the mic reverberate when I had it up. Overall they do sound a bit more isolated than retail TRs set up in the same configuration as far as speaker tags and cushions go.

Got a few pairs of Main Stage A40s this week. One pair had a bad mic and the seller refunded so I figured why not try to make them usable to me (since I use a Quadcast anyways). Was able to successfully remove the mic without damaging anything else. Also found out the speaker tags are just glued in too, so I’m gonna carefully pull another closed MLG one from one of my other sets (whichever is most worn) and leave the last set mint as a collector item.

Never seen A40 TRs where I can’t remove the speaker tags, mic or ear cushions… pretty bummed if that’s the case

I recently bought a red plastic refresh kit thinking they’d work with TRs without doing any research. Turns out they don’t fit due to differences in the bits that attach to the adjustment sliders. Question is does anyone know if the diameter of the sliders has changed between generations? Or has anyone tried using the hardware from Gen 1s on TRs? I’m talking about the black piece in pic 2 (although that’s the TR one). I’m looking at buying these as a donor just for those pieces as they’re local, don’t work and cheap. I also always wanted the neon red A40s as a kid and it’d be sweet if I can make a Frankenstein neon red TR, plus the plastic seems like better quality as it’s red all the way through rather than a paint on top of clear

Does this look alright? I couldn’t put it as far down as it could go on the OEM handle because I had to make sure there’s a gap between it and the dog leg dust cover otherwise it wouldn’t work. Used a good bit of the red locktite they sell for it and tried the same position before and it felt solid and is at a straight 90. Haven’t actually tried firing it yet to see if it holds as I haven’t had a chance. Tape on the optic so I don’t have to clean the lenses
