Always wanted neon reds as a kid. Bought this plastic refresh kit before I found the Main Stage pair and found it didn’t work with the hardware on my retail TRs. After noticing the paint flaking on these I decided to see if the plastics would fit and sure enough they do. Now I have the pair I always wanted as a kid but better.
Note to anyone looking to use a refresh kit for their pair, be aware that it didn’t fit my Gen 4 pair with the silver TR* logo. This pair has the bronze logo, not sure exactly what gen they are but take that for what you will. All I know is Astro themselves have said that the refresh kits only fit Gen 0 and 1

Some of my favorite pics from the past 10 years owning this thing. Got it as my first car in high school I believe late 2016. Now I’m sitting in the garage admiring it after a wash and I never really looked into production numbers on rabbit GTIs until now. Makes me even more proud to drive this thing as much as I can. When I bought it the paint was a pretty fresh respray of its original color, interior was pretty nice but I wore through the drivers seat over the years so I upgraded Recaros. After a decade it’s taken a beating but now that the 1.8t swap is pretty reliable (thanks to my big bro) the last things on the list really are getting the tach to work better (worked for a while after the swap but now has some sort of heat sensitivity issue and only works in cooler weather), upgrade the sound system (rear speakers don’t even work) and get the rust and paint repaired. A side piece would be euro bumpers but I have yet to come across a good set with the metal inserts (not the repro garbage)

Been having throttle sensor issues, swapped my throttle body but still having issues so now I’m swapping throttle pedal. I’m an idiot and in my rush to pull a pedal and get to work I didn’t pay attention to whether the car I was pulling from had 2 or 3 pedals… new part number is 1J1721503K. Its for my 1.8t swapped MK1. Engine and trans are from a 2001 Jetta Wolfsburg 5spd
Been working on a small stockpile of Astro A40s since they’re out of production and I’ve been using a40s ever since Gen1 maybe even Gen0. Anyways I came upon these pro issued versions that as far as I could find were designed specifically for main stage events at CoD World League. Pretty stoked as I got a good deal on em too considering they all came with mixamps. They’re quite different from retail A40 TRs. The speaker grilles are sealed and they have mod kit cushions and speaker tags glued in. The mic isn’t supposed to be removable but I tested the three sets I got and one mic didn’t work. Went at it with a drill and was able to get it out without damaging anything else. Was able to carefully pull a tag from one of the other sets to make a complete closed back set which actually makes me really happy since I use a Quadcast and I could feel the mic reverberate when I had it up. Overall they do sound a bit more isolated than retail TRs set up in the same configuration as far as speaker tags and cushions go.
Got a few pairs of Main Stage A40s this week. One pair had a bad mic and the seller refunded so I figured why not try to make them usable to me (since I use a Quadcast anyways). Was able to successfully remove the mic without damaging anything else. Also found out the speaker tags are just glued in too, so I’m gonna carefully pull another closed MLG one from one of my other sets (whichever is most worn) and leave the last set mint as a collector item.
