Teaching context and connotation

I’m not a new teacher, per se, but this year I am focusing on teaching how to figure out the meaning of words using context and connotation. This standard seems to be pushed aside for the “essential” ones in my district. I teach 5th grade, for reference.

I know to teach them to use context clues, look for synonyms and antonyms, look for the definition. But what I do not know is if there are any concrete strategies for this, other than lots of modeling and direct instruction.

Does anyone have a different way to approach this standard? I would love to get ideas so I can see growth in my students.

Benchmark Advance- no slides

5th grade teacher here. We started using BA this year, and I already hate it.

I’m ready to ditch the slides and just use my doc cam and whiteboard. However, I don’t want to keep that big ass TE next to me the entire time and I certainly am not reading from their script.

Does anyone already teach BA without using slides? If so, how do you do it without pre-annotating the magazines/ consumables?

I’m ready to pull my hair out and it’s only week 2.

It’s been 10 years

I miss him so much. Most days are okay at this point, but god it’s still not fair. It hurts. The wondering, the memories. I miss my son.

PDRN options- I am allergic to salmon

Unfortunately, I am allergic to salmon, so I can’t use that type of PDRN. From what I understand, many PDRN products contain molecules that are too big to penetrate skin. So what other options are there that actually work?

I am very new to skincare, so knowledge from others is appreciated!

Am I overdoing or missing something?

I (43F) am trying to get my routine down to address texture, acne scarring, elasticity, and fine lines/ wrinkles. I feel like I’m either over doing it or missing something, such as hydration. Here is my current routine:

AM Routine: Day 1
- Tatcha The Camellia Cleansing Oil
- Etude SoonJung pH 5.5 Relief Toner
- Timeless Vitamin C
- CeraVe Moisturizer
- Eurecin Age Defense SPF 50

AM Routine: Day 2:

- Tatcha The Camellia Cleansing Oil
- Etude SoonJung pH 5.5 Relief Toner
- The Ordinary Multi-Peptide + Copper Peptides 1%
- CeraVe Moisturizer
- Eurecin Age Defense SPF 50

PM Routine (every night):
- Tatcha The Camellia Cleansing Oil
- Niacinamide Serum + The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA
- Wait 30 minutes.
- Tretinoin 0.05%
- CeraVe Moisturizer

My skin handles the Tretinoin very well. I am just hoping that I’m maximizing everything I can at home. I also microneedle every 6 weeks.

A book for 10 year old about AI takeover?

My 10 year old asked me if they could read I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream by Harlan Ellison and that’s not happening lol, so I told them I would reach out and find an age appropriate book about AI takeover. Any suggestions are appreciated!
