I finally got renewal offers and not sure if 2 yr fixed or what would be better?

My 5 yr fixed term will end November 1st. It was only 2.45 but I only owe $100,000, so it won't make a huge difference in payments with what they are offering me.

The thing is, I THINK I will sell my house in 3 yrs, maybe 2 yrs, not sure, to get something smaller, I would like to get some money out of my house - it is my first house. I"ve been here 10 yrs.

Scotiabank is offering:

Variable 5 yr : 3.37

Fixed:
1 yr 4.31
2yr 3.71
3yr 3.80
4yr 3.94
5yr 4.01

If I renew now, I'll have a higher September and October payment because it says I have to accept it in the session. It isn't THAT much, so it's ok.

But I don't know what to do because, I'm not 100 percent sure that I'd be able to find a house to buy in 2 or 3 yrs and sell mine. It all depends on good market/bad market at the time.

If I accept 2yr, what will mortgages be in 2yrs? A LOT higher? Do I need to go for 3 yrs?
I doubt that I will move before 2 yrs. I could stay 3 if I have to though. Haha

Anyway, I wanted to post here to let people know what is being offered right now in August, but also, not sure what the best thing to do is.

It said something about 90 days that I'd be able to port my mortgage. Does it mean at the end of the fixed term? Or right now if I sign?

IT's hard to know the right thing to do because I am not rich. I am pretty low income and it was only by chance that I was able to even buy a house 10 yrs ago. I just don't want to be stuck in 2 yrs or 3 yrs and the next offer is double.

Mortgage lender hasn't sent me a renewal yet and it is due November 1

My mortgage is with Scotiabank The last 2 times when I renewed for 5 yr fixed they gave me offers 6 months in advance. This time they haven't.
When I go in the banking APP it tell me to click on the renewal options and then it redirects to a page that says to call our specialists.
I have never missed a payment, I don't have debt other than the low mortgage of $100,000 left, and I have a credit score of 830. So I don't think it is because I don't qualify.
What I am thinking is that my current 2.45 percent is so low and they don't have anything remotely close to that for renewal, so they are waiting for me to go to them?

I don't mind switching to a different lender, but I am wondering, what is going on? Has anyone else experienced the same where they are not offering anything 6 months before? Now it is 3 months before. I wonder what to do.

At 53 years old, I didn't think my hair would come back, but look! what Rogaine and Spironolactone did!

I attribute most of the thickness and growth to Minoxidil 5% Foam. I used Kirkland brand and Rogaine, alternating, depending on which one I can easily get. I don't know exactly what caused my hairloss, I THINK it was perimenopause. And that is a natural wave. It ended up making my hair wavy.

First picture is right before I started anything.

June 2023: Second photo is after using oral Spironolactone 100mg/day for 1 year and 3 months. (It looks thicker than it was because my bangs from the front are pushed towards the back. That's what you see on the top.

December 2025: The next photo was just earlier this year and it was after using 5% minoxidil foam for 1.5 years.

I did get it cut a few times., otherwise it would be so much longer because Minoxidil makes my hair grow so fast.

The only thing now is that I had a hospitalization a few months ago and the Dr took me off Spironolactone. He said it was very hard on my kidneys. That was 3 months ago and my hair is shedding a lot and my scalp and face, sooo oily. But I am still using Rogaine, which is keeping my hair thick, despite the mega shedding from cold turkey stopping Spironolactone. But!! I just found out about Topical 5% Spironolactone. So I will continue my favorite (Minoxidil 5%) and add on topical spironolactone.

Has anyone benefited from 2500mcg of Biotin? Or did you have to take 5000 or 10,000mcg?

So I have been taking 10,000mcg for more than a year now. I find my hair grows faster and thicker since. But I know that your body only uses what it needs and then pees the rest of it out. So I was thinking... maybe 2500mcg is enough? Because my body is prob peeing away most of the 10,000.

Or is 10,000 really the mark needed?

Please help me figure this out. I was in hospital for 8 days due to a kidney infection and sepsis and developed a bad cough. The doctor didn't really worry about it. But I still have a bad urge to cough and have coughing fits

40F, 5'4" ,125lbs. No meds, no drugs ever, no alcohol, no smoking.

I was hospitalized because I had a UTI that turned into a kidney infection, and then a blood infection, and then sepsis. My lactate was 6 (Canada measurement- should be under 2)

I was treated with IV fluids and IV Antibiotics (Ceftriaxone). On the 3rd day, I developed a cough. like as if I have asthma. A strong urge to cough and then a coughing fits day and night every few minutes, until I couldn't breathe. Dr gave me Ventolin. It worked for a short time. The cough lasted all the rest of the 8 days and I have been out for 4 days and still have this urge to cough (Like bronchospasm), but coughing much less.

While in the hospital, they did 2 chest X-rays, which were clear. The only thing that helped me for a bit was that I remembered the vending machines had Halls cough drops. It worked to help open my airways more than the Ventolin.

But I just wonder why I have these bronchspasms still and the urge to cough. It is just because of the sepsis that I had? Or an allergy to the antibiotic (I am allergic to penicillin)

Has anyone gone off Spironolactone cold turkey? What happened?

I was in the hospital for 8 days due to a severe kidney infection and sepsis. While there, the doctor took me off my Spironolactone cold-turkey. He said that it is hard on my kidneys. He told me not to take it anymore.

My feet are a bit swollen and my legs and I'm just wondering how long it will take to adjust being off the Spiro?

I was actually taking it for my hair only. My hair got very thin a few years ago, and 2 years of 100mcg of Spironolactone once a day helped make it grow back.

Was in hospital after 8 days stay for serious kidney infection and sepsis. My feet are swollen.

53 yr old female.

125 lbs

Caucasian

Canada

Never smoke, never drink, never do drugs.

Just got out of the hospital after 8 days of treatment for AKI,severe kidney infection and dehydration, and sepsis.

My feet and ankles are swollen now. I'm worried because I was on Spironolactone and Coversyl (for high blood pressure). In the hospital they didn't give me those at all and my BP is normal. (I lost weight, that's why). The hospital doctor took me off both cold turkey. He said they are really hard on my kidneys.
Am I getting rebound edema because it was stopped suddenly? What should I do?

On the last day, the doctor talked to me and told me that he was going to start the discharge papers.

The nurse came in and gave me my discharge papers (noting why I was admitted and some of my blood tests).

But when I go online and look at my health records, it lists me as "AWOL".

I didn't go AWOL. I was told I was being discharged.

Was I supposed to get a stamp on my hand or something? Ha. So weird.

I'm just wondering, should I call the hospital and set the record straight so that it doesn't affect me the next time I may be hospitalized again?

My feet and ankles are swollen after an 8 day hospital stay. How long will it take to go back to normal?

I was in the hospital for 8 days for a kidney infection and sepsis. I had about 5 days of fluids (Ringer's solution, alternating with saline) and 7 days of IV ceftriaxone 2mg.

I had high blood pressure, but lost weight and now didn't need any BP pills (according to the hospital doctor). I was on Coversyl 4mg,and Spironolactone 100mcg. Dr took me off it completely, cold turkey during my 8 day hospital admission and my BP still stayed good. He said that both drugs are too hard on my kidneys. So he told me not to take them anymore.

So I'm worried that I have rebound edema.... or could it just be because of the hospital stay?

Age 53

Height 5'2"

Weight 125

Race Caucasian

Duration of complaint 2 days

I’m typing from my hospital bed right now now 😷🤕🤧 When I went in to the ER, I thought I was going to be able to file my taxes but I was so sick, too sick to even text my family much about my admission, that I missed the deadline and have to wait until I’m released because I’m so weak and don’t want to make a mistake.

I will prob owe $2000 for 2025 tax year.

Will I be able to get forgiveness of the penalty?

I bought my first house 9 years ago and have a 25 yr mortgage. Now it is at 16 years left. It is under $100,000 and my house is worth a lot more.
My 5 yr fixed is ending at the end of the year and when I renew for 5 yrs again, I wanted to take $40,000 extra - add it to my mortgage.

The financial advisor at my bank said then my mortgage amortization will go back to 25 years instead of the 16 years.

My mortgage will go up only $125/mo if I take the $40,000.

I also plan on selling my house and buying a new one (cheaper one) in a year or 2, so will the amortization going back to 25 yrs really matter, because my mortgage will be paid off when I sell?

Also, the bank says they will charge $700 to register the refinance and also $300 to appraise my house. Is that high? or normal?

Is that a really bad idea? I really really really need the money.
