I'm not and will never be vegan, vegetarian, or pescatarian, but meat—specifically hate RED meat—has to be the WORST culinary delicacy since shiitake mushrooms. Also, when I say I hate meat, I'm not talking about fish and seafood. Don't get me wrong, some seafood is its own brand of torture, but I truly believe you have to be a special kind of masochist to unironically enjoy meat. I can't stand the texture, flavour, or smell of meat. There is no sauce or seasoning that can redeem meat of its odious texture and taste. Merely looking at slabs of meat makes me unbearably nauseous. I can't even touch frozen packaged meat at the grocery store without feeling like I've been contaminated with a vast inventory of every virus we've yet to develop a vaccine for. Meat just sits so unpleasantly in the mouth, too. Steaks are always weirdly bouncy, slimy, and gelatinous. Pork, ham, and bacon do not taste good enough to justify the risk of heart disease.

Chicken, and sometimes turkey, are the exceptions, but only in very specific contexts: the skin CANNOT be slimy and gross, there should be no weird chewy bits of cartilage or fat, and the texture needs to be uniform throughout. That mitigates the options to tenders/nuggets, fried or air fried, or baked chicken breast. I do fw a chicken breast. It's the perfect portion size all the time, the flavour is neutral and holds seasonings well, it's never oily and slimy, and the texture is even.

Like, not to circle back to the insufferable vegan thing (which I'm not; I'm insufferable, but not a vegan), but for the scale of unethical practices that go into slaughterhouses, you'd think the end product would at least be worth the massacre. But it's not. It never is. Satan couldn't reach me so he put me in a world where we suck the flesh off of animal bones for dionysian pleashre

I'm honestly just spiteful at this point. And before anyone gets mouthy: YES, goth is a subculture rooted in MUSIC, not APPEARANCE/fashion. I look like the most basic and unassuming person on my best day, but I am still goth provided that I listen to gothic rock, etherealwave, darkwave and suchlike, and that I align with the generally anti-establishment and left-leaning political sentiments characteristic of the subculture.

But that's the thing.

Eroticizing the goth subculture foregos the music aspect ENTIRELY, when music is literally the blood and pulse of the goth subculture. Without it, everything falls apart. You CANNOT be goth without listening to goth music, and I'm SO FUCKING TIRED of having to explain that.

Of course, there's also the political limbs of the goth subculture, which might get this post nuked off the subreddit, but I'll shoot my best shot: goth descended from punk, which is notoriously politically aware; look at Hobie Brown/Spiderpunk as a contemporary example. As such, goth retains some, if not all, of the radical sentiments that are rudimentary to the punk scene. Objectifying the goth subculture when you "don't do politics" or openly and ardently support fascist, authoritarian, or heavily capitalistic governments is just douchey at best, and extraordinarily ignorant at worst.

And again, before some greasy basement-dweller gets lippy with me: YES, the goth subculture has its roots in kink and sex work. I don't want this post to be some puritanical moral-signalling against sex workers. That's absolutely not my point. Sex work is not glamorous; it's gritty and dangerous. Those in the industry are often forced/coerced into it, or were forced by circumstance to take up the opportunity (think poverty, etc). Sex workers have my absolute respect.

But there are SOME PEOPLE who curtail the goth subculture to just KINK, divorcing it from its bases in music - and then hide behind the SW argument to justify their blind ignorance. There are asexual goths. There are celibate goths. There are abstinent goths. Not every goth looks like, or is willing to be the quintessential "Goth mommy". That's like saying that all Koreans look like Wonyoung; some might, many don't. Goth that is amiable to SW is a robust, radical, and multifaceted domain where everyone is free to explore their identities; goth that is nothing but kink is just a husk of itself.
