Why do you feel Peters love life is such an important part his comics?

When you think of the big three, Lois Lane is just accepted as Supermans #1 and Batman love life really isn't something people buy a Batman comic for, sure he has love interests but nobody is upset if Catwoman doesn't make an appearance.

But with Spider-Man it's like a main staple of the character of who is his love interest is and it's wildly debated (outside of your normal shippers) who's best girl, mainly with canon ships he's been in. Even when romance didn't matter in a superhero to me, Mary Jane was still very much connected to Spider-Man.

Why do you think Spider-Mans love life is such a big part of the character where most other superheroes it really doesn't matter who their with one way or the other?
