Rides with Drops

Hey all, I will be heading to TokyoSea (2 days) and Tokyo Disneyland (1 day) in just less than two weeks with my partner. Basically, he does not like the drop feeling and would like to avoid it as much as possible (he has not built up tolerance like I have over the years). We were in Disneyland Anaheim in March and he didn’t even like the Pirates drop (though could deal with it with forewarning). I’m just wondering which rides across the two parks have drops enough that you might feel them? With the exception of obvious answers like Tower of Terror. Thank you!

Sling for hind leg weakness

Hey everyone, my dog is still having hind leg weakness from bromide and it’s starting to hurt his front legs a bit because he has arthritis in his wrists. We pick him up a lot to help him but it is usually only the back legs he needs the help with. Unfortunately he’s 38kg/83 pounds and while I don’t mind lifting him with my arms, the rest of my family is a bit smaller than me, especially my mum who finds it quite difficult to get him up. Has anyone tried a sling for lifting because of this? Or for any other reason! I’m wondering what the best type would be, I’d prefer fabric because it would probably be more comfortable on his skin.

“A Split in the Spectrum?” BBC Article

Just wondering if anyone else saw or read this article from the BBC today. Really odd framing where someone who used to work in autism research thinks there’s a current problem with over diagnosis, particularly late diagnosis, and multiple people currently working in the field quite vehemently disagree with her (including those who are diagnosed themselves and working in research). It seems to imply that those with autism and concurrent intellectual disability are being pushed aside (my understanding is that this is less than half of the autistic population) though she then also seems to dismiss the proportion of people (particularly women) who have autism and also depression, anxiety or OCD.

Skin Problems?

Hi everyone, I’m just wondering if anyone else’s dog has really dry/bad skin. I’m honestly not sure if it’s related to the anticonvulsants but the timeline definitely lines up. Unfortunately he’s also on steroids at the moment for a different issue so I know that’s not helping, but I just wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar issue and maybe has some ways they improved it, be it diet or special shampoo or some sort of at home skin treatment I can do for him (oat mask or something). He has a mixture of kibble and wet food and he has started having cucumber snacks recently too because of the weight gain on his meds.

Anyone else have serious issues with people knowing private things about them? Trying to apply for mortgage

I’ve always kept things close to my chest and get quite stressed when people know things about me or my personal life. I’m applying for a mortgage at the moment and the concept of having to provide 6 months of bank statements is honestly bringing me to the point of panic, it’s not like I have loads of wild transactions or anything but it just feels so violating that someone would look at something like that. I know I have to do it, I really want somewhere to live that is actually mine and that I can keep all of my own stuff in (and finally put things on the walls again) but I am really struggling with handing things over and I already have serious executive dysfunction which means the whole process is difficult anyway. Just wondering if anyone has been through this recently, or how they dealt with the related stress.

Does anybody have certain topics that they cannot interest themselves in discussing, even when they try?

Basically exactly as above. No matter how hard I’ve tried I have zero interest in certain topics like military history or sports, everything I’ve heard about them is in one ear and immediately out the other and I find them incredibly boring (which is how some people would probably find my special interest topics!). But I feel bad because my boyfriend is really interested in those things and always does his best to ask questions and discuss things that I’m interested in, but I genuinely don’t understand how to respond to some things in the same way. It feels like something just switches off in my brain and then I feel bad that I can’t reciprocate the way he does.

Re-Learning

Hi all, I had C1 Sprachdiplom ten years ago after attending German school from the age of 7 so I have been previously fluent and I’m struggling to try to relearn. I am reading in German sometimes (translated or original German books), listening to podcasts in German fairly regularly and have started watching TV in German as well (not exclusively). Are there any resources that are specifically not for beginner level German but for people in my situation? I just feel like I should be making more progress.

Audio Recognition Flashcards

Hi everyone, I’m just wondering if there’s any flash card app which allows audio recognition - basically like the flash card thing Duolingo has been doing recently except one that allows you to input your own vocab, then prompts you with the English word to translate aloud. I would prefer a visual rather than audio prompt if possible. Otherwise I am looking for advanced German vocabulary (TL) flashcards as I am trying to get back to my C1 level. Thank you!

Suggest me a literary non-fiction (preferably true crime) book

Hi all, looking for more excellently written non fiction about a certain event rather than a time in history or what have you. Think Jon Krakauer, but about a crime if possible. The single best example of this is I think This House of Grief by Helen Garner, which is one of my favourite books of all time and which I think everyone should read regardless of what their usual preference for topics is as it surpasses its genre and becomes a meditation on humanity and loss. I have her other crime book (Joe Cinque’s Consolation) and will get the Mushroom Tapes although that’s co-written, but is there anything else as high quality or close that anyone can think of?

Private Gynaecologist in Dublin (Female)

Hi all, I have PMOS and chronic pelvic pain and have only ever been seen by a GP before. I’ve seen some pretty negative experiences with certain consultants on here (my closest private hospital is the Beacon) but I’m insured so want to be seen privately and really don’t think I’ll be comfortable being examined by a man. Has anyone had a good experience with a female gynae in a private hospital in Dublin?
