Meet Pudge. She's very embarrassed because she ruined my one and only family vacation. She escaped her boarder's kennel and went on her very own homeward bound journey.
My vacation started off great. I dropped her and my weenies off at the kennel and that seemed just fine. She was a bit worried looking, but seemed like she would have a great time. Fast forward to day 2 of my beach vacation. I received a phone call at 945 pm by a panicked boarder. I first have to say that Pudge has never been aggressive or bitten anyone in her 2.5 years of life. She is as sweet and docile as can be. So I thought. She and her staff had been accosted and bitten multiple times by Pudge as they attempted to take her out into the play yard. She was able to slip her collar bite an employee and escape once outside. They pursued her for about an hour across a 400 acre farm. They tried to lure her back until they lost sight of her at dark. I drove home 3.5 hours to join in on the search and rescue. I spent 2 hours trouncing through ponds, navigating cows, electric fences, and all matters of terrible terrain in dense fog. I gave up around 4 am. I thought all was lost. The boarder had posted on Facebook and knocked on doors to get the word out. Fast forward to 8 am the next day. I had slept about 3.5 hours when I received a call. She had been spotted. Multiple times. 7.5 miles away from the kennel. How does a short stubby hippo travel 7.5 miles in a few hours? I drove around for 30 minutes when I spotted her. I stopped opened my door and she hopped in like I was an Uber she had been waiting for. No excitement, not even a butt wag. I am happy to have her back, but wtf. She ruined my vacation, caused panic amongst my family, and had zero empathy when she was found. She still hasn't offered to reimburse me and hasn't apologized to the kennel staff for the bites. Any other dog, id probably have thrown my hands up and said, I'll find em after my vacation. But this Frenchie is something else.
