Similar dramas to Moonlit Reunion

I’m somewhat new to CDramas and tend to be more drawn to costume dramas. I’ve watched some fantasies (Love Between Fairy and Devil, Love In the Clouds, Veil of Shadows), but nothing quite felt like this one.

I was looking for something with a similar vibe to this. I like the yearning, the deep lore and different worlds. I like a full cast that focuses on two main characters (as opposed to something like Veil of Shadows where it feels like everyone is a main character).

Secret Meetings

Our bun has bonded hard with our little and the random shenanigans they are constantly up to is hilarious.

There was a “Do Not Disturb” sign on their door and we were informed Odin was in a meeting.

The meeting in question:

A Dream Within a Dream: DNF Final Thoughts

I think a lot of my expectations for this show would have been better managed if the show was marketed as a romantic drama and not a comedy. Though the show starts off with a very unique comedic presence, it quickly gets serious very fast following the same beats and tropes as most costume dramas and loses its comedic appeal.

This isn’t unique to this specific show. I feel like there are a lot of C and KDramas that lure you in with a very unique premise and quickly toss that aside and stick to what they know instead of diving in and fully committing to what they introduced.

The days restarting as she tried to drastically change her fate (and the script) in episode one was the beginning of something they could have pulled all the way through the show to add some levity to the underlying dark storyline, but they quickly abandoned that. I feel like it was something they debated carrying through (having the little boy note how many times she was getting married as she tried again and again to marry the SL) but decided to give us all the heavy details of the script the FL skimmed through instead. I would have loved for this to be a common reoccurrence alongside the ML constantly having to save the FL as both a reminder that they’re not in control, and let the FL and us as the viewer test the waters with how much she could change before the scriptwriter tossed the page and started over. I also would have loved if they explored the sentient/aware characters like the little boy who noticed she was reliving days. It would have just added something light and fun to the plot.

If I had my way, because the ML is so calculating, he would have been more interested in investigating the scriptwriter and maybe wouldn’t have gone at testing if she could be killed so hard (to give him an easier path to redemption for both the FL and the viewer). I would have also had the ML be one of the sentient characters who noticed when FL had made a mistake and the day restarted which would have given the leads a reason to work together… but alas, not my circus, not my monkeys.

Costume dramas are kind of my go to for CDramas. As an avid KDrama watcher, I tend to enjoy how CDramas lean more into action for their costume dramas that leaning so hard into palace politics within the gates of the emperor’s estates. Typically they do such a great job with relationships where I quickly fall for secondary characters. I full on SOBBED during the final episodes of Prisoner of Beauty (those who know know) and Prisoner of Jade had me hoping for everyone’s happy ending but this drama fell a little flat in genuine relationship developments. We had some amazing secondary characters that felt under utilized and kind of… individual? If that makes sense. I don’t quite know how to describe it not hitting the mark. I was disappointed, especially since I got to see Chengsi Wang with Li Yuning again. Could I get a little more brotherhood, PLEASE!

All in all, if I went into this strictly from a costume drama perspective, I probably would have stuck it out to the end… maybe. Possibly. As a comedy though? I just couldn’t power through.

That being said, if you loved it, I love that for you! This just wasn’t one for me.

A Dream Within A Dream : Mini Rant

I’m on episode 24 and I understand this is supposed to be more of a comedy than the average historical Chinese drama, but Xiao Yu’s character is sooooo irritating.

She enters the script with the main goal of changing the plot and the plot is constantly changing from the original script she’s read but she’s soooo slow to realize the plot has changed. I get it… the story needs conflict but because of her constant suspicion of Nan Heng, it kind of eliminates any relationship building and becomes overly tedious to watch. We get it. You don’t trust him even though the role of both you sister and your stepmom has changed and you’ve noted other characters have changed while constantly ignoring the possibility that Nan Heng could have also changed.

I was hoping she would catch on a bit sooner but now that she’s stabbed him as Li Sixteen I just find her annoying.

Bunny Proofing Balcony

Has anyone bunny proofed their balcony?

My balcony had metal solid outter wall railings but there is about a 2-3” gap at the bottom. I have pool noodles shoved there solely to keep the birds out. My apartment building also has maintenance installed nets to prevent birds from going into the balconies and into apartment (for tenants that keep the doors open). I feel like this is enough to keep bun safe but I’m still nervous about letting him onto the balcony this summer season.

Does anyone let their bun on the balcony? What is your setup like?

Bunny nowhere to be found.
Peels banana.
Odin appears like an apparition and bites my banana.
“Oh, hey… I heard you had a banana.” -Odin, probably.

And so far the only person I like is the Demi-god. (Half human/half god) Shin Hoo-ye.

Soo-ah is a psychiatrist but I have no idea why because she is bad at her job and doesn’t listen or care about patients for the most part. She also has the biggest victim mentality of life, blaming all her woes on her dad while STILL being mean to the foster child who stuck with her. I mean, as a psychiatrist she can’t even work her own shit out. Ha-baek is just some dude with the arrogance of a god but nothing to go along with it. And Moo Ra and Bi-Ryeom are buttheads who have a half baked planned that is never fully disclosed but always in the process of unravelling. Just spoiled and powerful and yet somehow useless.

It feels like a supernatural show they just forgot to make supernatural because too much of the day to day is completely mundane and the romance is nonexistent until they TELL us it’s there.

Siiiiiiiigh. I’m about to throw in the towel at episode 11.
