Many of the ceilings in my house have a thin plaster decorative swirl on the ceiling (I have included pictures).

 I am wondering if anyone has experience painting these types of ceilings with colored paint? Specifically, I want to paint one of these ceilings light blue.

I looked into how to smooth the ceilings, but it is more work than I really want to do especially as the ceiling texture doesn’t bother me.

Can anyone show examples of painted textured ceilings or have knowledge of doing this?

This painting was in my hotel room at the The Royal Park Hotel Tokyo Haneda International Airport. I don't remember the room number. I didn't notice until later there is no obvious signature. I have tried searching online but haven't found a good match. The artist Gary Brewer is similar but his art doesn't have quite the same look. Any help with identifying it would be great!
