Planning a 6-day workation in Dharamshala, McLeod Ganj and Dharamkot from 11th October to 17th October. It'll be my first time exploring these places, so looking for recommendations from people who have visited recently or stayed there for a longer duration.

I'll be working during the day, but also want to explore the cafés, food spots, nature and the overall vibe of the place.

My rough plan

• 11th October: Dharamkot – settle in, explore the cafés and surroundings.
• 12th October: Planning to do the Triund trek if the weather and trail conditions are suitable.
• After Triund: McLeod Ganj – planning to stay for a couple of days and explore.
• Dharamshala: Finish the trip here, explore the main attractions and work from cafés.

I'm flexible with the exact number of days in each place, so open to suggestions on how to plan this better.

Currently working as a Full Stack Engineer at a global advertising tech company — my day-to-day involves building and maintaining large-scale data ingestion pipelines for 30+ ad platforms using .NET 8, PySpark, Databricks, Delta Lake, AWS S3, and Amazon Redshift. Essentially I sit at the intersection of backend engineering and data engineering — writing C# for the application layer and PySpark/Spark SQL for the transformation layer.

My background before this was pure .NET Core backend — REST APIs, microservices, Azure services, SQL Server — around 3 years of that. Now with nearly 2 years of hands-on data engineering on top, I'm actively upskilling in Airflow, DBT, and AI/LLM pipelines to build portfolio projects. I have a 90-day notice period and am targeting product companies and AI-first startups. The question is whether I should position myself purely as a Data Engineer going forward or keep the Full Stack + Data angle. Would love genuine advice from people who've made similar transitions or hire for these roles — does specialising into Data Engineering make sense at this stage, or am I leaving value on the table by dropping the .NET identity?

I’m in Bir for a short workation from April 29 to May 4, balancing remote work with some exploring on the side.

I’m planning to try paragliding and would appreciate recommendations on reliable operators, ideal timings, and anything important to keep in mind before booking.

Also looking for suggestions on a simple, well-paced itinerary around Bir/Billing and nearby areas—preferably places that aren’t too crowded but still worth experiencing.

If there are any good cafés with stable WiFi where one can comfortably work for a few hours, that would be really helpful as well.
