Vinegar Syndrome 80's Trash-Horror Haul

I found the so bad it's good section. Love me some 80's B movie camp. Just looking for a good time and a couple of drinks. Anyone?

The Suckling (1990) - Unhinged dark camp featuring a mutated fetus monster, gore, and sleaze

Spookies (1986) - cheesy wild practical effects, disjointed story with nonsensical plot, and tons of cheap thrills

Blood Delerium (1988) - trashy, campy, eccentric, and over the top with gothic atmosphere, crude gore, and wild surrealisim

Devil's Story (1986) - incoherent surreal fever dream with no actual plot

Raw (2016) French Body Horror. Moody, intense, visceral. Incredible film.

Released by Second Sight

Written and Directed by Julia Ducournau

Julia is introducing exciting, original, and creative new ideas to the body horror genre. After viewing Titane i was instantly compelled to check out her other films and Raw did not disappoint. The film functions as a psychological coming of age drama/character study and contains heavy doses of body horror, blood, and gore while heavily leaning into cannibalism.

The film looks incredible with brilliant color contrast and meticulous framing contributing to a tense moody environment while the score perfectly highlights the character's psychological awakening and coming of age journey.

As for the release, the transfer is fantastic and only available in 1080p . The audio was crisp and clear. The disc is region b and packed with special features which I have yet to explore.

I highly recommend this film and really enjoyed it. By the end, I was attached to the main characters and honestly wanted more. Looking forward to checking out Julia's most recent release "Alpha". I have to say, judging by my experience after watching "Titane" and "Raw", it won't miss.

Severin goodies

Always a good day when Severin mail drops! A quick breakdown of each film:

Antiviral - Sci-fi body horror set in a dystopian future. The film explores commodification of human bodies, media saturation, and society's relationship with fame. The film is Brandon Cronenberg's directorial debut and i'm excited to check it out as i loved Infinity Pool and Possesor.

Mutant Action - 90's hidden gem that mixes dark humor, splatter gore, and punk sci-fi. Set in a futuristic world ruled by attractive people. Centers on a radical group of disabled and disfigured outcasts that kidnap the daughter of a billionaire industrialist. This film caught my eye and looks like a great time.

Psychological horror/black comedy based on Ed Gein

Deranged (1974)

Vinegar Syndrome

The movie looked good for an older movie. A couple scenes were pretty bad due to the negative not being available to restore but no biggie. Also, love the artwork as with most of their releases.

As for the movie, I didn't know it existed until recently. Of course, you have Psycho and Texas Chainsaw which are fictionalized versions of Ed Gein but Deranged played into the actual events of his crimes and the psychology behind it. I expected a little more out of the movie but overall it did have some interesting scenes and was pretty good. The black comedy aspect was also welcome and made the movie feel a little more fun. Overall, definitely worth a watch. Anyone?

Tbh not sure how I feel about this one. I do understand the theme implies hell is a state of being or within. Definitely had some cool moments but I need a rewatch. As far as the release, Severin did a fantastic job and the movie looks great. Anyone?

Today's watch. Peak 90's, campy and unhinged.

A movie that is so bad it's good lol. I really enjoyed this one! A lot of fun and the practical effects were awesome. And of course, Robert England was the perfect villian. All around awesome release from Vinegar Syndrome. Love the artwork as well.

Today's watch. 90's Industrial Vampire nostalgia.

This movie kicked ass! Yes, it's B grade to the max but who cares. I loved every second of it. Highly recommend if you're into 90's industrial/goth.
