Questions about Splashtop remote access

I currently use Chrome Remote Desktop to access a handful of remote devices. It’s free and it works ok but the mobile experience is awful.

I’m considering switching to Splashtop, as I’ve heard good things about it, however I have some questions before i start a trial:

  1. Has anyone tried using it on airplane WiFi? I’ve found CRD to be very unreliable and very laggy on an airplane.

  2. Does Splashtop keep the machine “logged in”? All the systems I need access to are Windows machines without a monitor connected and I basically need them to remain logged in at all times so certain scripts and processes (that need the desktop and screen active) can run throughout the day.

  3. are you generally happy with ST? Any complaints, issues or security issues?

Looking for a new Mini/SFF PC to replace my NUC

I have an aging Intel NUC Skull Caynon which I bought back in 2016. It's running Windows Server 2022 but it's starting to show its age. The NIC is sometimes unstable, needs the occasional reboot, etc.

What is the recommend mini/SFF PC these days that can reliably run Windows Servers? Ideally it's around $1k in price but I'm open to a bit more if it's worth it.

Thanks for any tips

U6 Mesh finally kicked the bucket. Is the U7 Mesh better or worse?

So my U6 Mesh just fried itself. I swapped cables and ports, it will no longer boot up. I used it to provide WiFi to my backyard, so it’s mounted outside on the side of my house, fully exposed. Unfortunately I’m outside of the RMA window and didn’t get the extended warranty.

I see there’s a new U7 Mesh AP available. Should I go for that one or stick to the U6 Mesh? I’m seeing conflicting info on if it’s actually better or the same or worse than the U6 Mesh? If it matters at all, the rest of my house is running U7 Pros or U7 Pro Walls with a Pro Max 24 POE switch powering everything.

Thanks for any insight and tips.

Should I change the transmission fluid in my F15 2015 X5 xdrive35d diesel ?

I have 80k miles on mine. Recently had the oil changed along with the oils for transfer case, front and rear diffs. The shop told me I’m due for a transmission fluid change at about $1500.

I thought the fluid wasn’t meant to be changed and back when I took it to the dealer, they never mentioned it to me.

Is it recommended to change it? Car and transmission runs fine, no issues at all.

F1RST Automotive vs. Bimmer Tech Apple CarPlay MMI module

I have an older BMW X5 (2015) that I'm looking to add Apple CarPlay to. I've found the Bimmer Tech MMI Prime module and it looks to be quite nice. One of my local installers is saying they would prefer to sell me and install the F1RST Automotive module instead. I've never heard of the company before and I can't find much information on them. I've checked Google, YouTube, etc. Bimmer Tech has tons of info, install videos, extended warranty options, etc.

I wanted to see if anyone in the community has any experience with both brands and what do you recommend? I'd love any and all information you can share. I did find some info about F1RST going bankrupt but I wasn't quite sure if it was really the same company - so that's concerning of course.

Thanks for any tips you can provide.

What should I invest remaining funds in?

I’m currently investing into VTI inside my 401k. I always have a little bit left over that isn’t enough to get a whole share of VTI. For context this is an individual 401k and I tend to buy in large amounts at a time as cash flow permits.

What’s the best thing to invest the left over amounts into vs just letting it sit there in cash?
