Is it time to seperate?

I am a single mother and have recently started a new job making more money. My sister (also a single mom) and I have been living together splitting expenses on and off for the past few years. I’m sick of renting and want to give my son a more stable home. I also want a place of my own and no longer want to have a roommate. I qualify for the VA loan, and am in between a few options. I also want to add due to some differences in parenting preferences I no longer want to live with my sister. It’s more about the interactions I have with her children, the way they speak to adults, how they treat the home they live in (cleanliness). I also have a problem with the unlimited screen time they have because it makes it harder for me to regulate my sons (5m) own screen time. My sister rather leave the cleaning up to us the adults rather then have the children help with chores. I believe they are old enough 13m, 11f, 10f to help. And have been trying to implement chores with my son. We’ve talked about these differences to no end but no real change has happened so I think it’s time to separate but I don’t think I want to completely. One because I want to continue to have that support system, but also I don’t think my sister could afford any more then a one bedroom apartment on her own.

Purchasing a duplex so my sister and I can split the mortgage, live separately but continue to help each other. I would essentially act as her landlord as with her credit I would not be able to put her on the loan.

Purchasing a multi family home where I live in one unit, my sister lives in another, and renting out the remaining one or two units to strangers for “passive income”

Purchasing a single family home for my son and I, and living apart from my sister all together.

Single family vs multi family

Kindergarten suggestions

I know I’m late in the game as school is starting on Monday. But my son is starting kindergarten and I am very picky. Being myself a product of ASD, I really don’t want my son to attend public school but because of my current work schedule I might have to bite the bullet. I am still deciding between three schools and am wondering what’s everyone’s experience / opinions / recommendations between:

Sonia Sotomayor dual language immersion academy

Lincoln leadership academy charter school

Jefferson elementary school

Unhinged ways to get over your ex (child’s father)

I’ve been on and off with my son’s dad for 7 years now. I’ve come to accept we will never work out due to cheating on both ends, plus a slew of other things. However because I can’t just ghost him and still have to communicate for the sake of our son it makes it so much harder to have a clean break. So I ask what are the most unhinged ways you have gotten over the other parent not just “ don’t sleep together, only talk about the child, etc “

First night

Tonight is my first night shift 11p to 7am as an LPN at an LTSR. It’s been pretty quiet, I thought I would be shadowing but I’ve just been pretty much on my own not too much to it. Hardest part is staying busy. I’ve been prepping for this for the past 2 - 3 weeks since accepting the offer. And I started flipping my sleep schedule Saturday night. I was nervous but it’s been fine so far. How’s everyone else’s night going ?

Edit to add: it’s supposed to be at least 2 people here at night, I haven’t seen not seen the other unlicensed staff member since midnight. It’s almost 3am. I had heard rumors this particular staff member sleeps on their shift I haven’t seen it so idk. A resident also complained that at night she was unable to find staff members several times/ several nights . This is a sort of Psych facility and I’m a little concerned. Should I call someone about not being able to find this person and if so at what point? Or she could be in another area cleaning ? She could be off somewhere hiding to nap which I wouldn’t care not my monkeys not my circus. But also she could’ve just left and not said anything where we would be out of ratio. Or something worse. Maybe I’m just paranoid. What should I do?

Tools / Windows

I want to start getting ready for my new night schedule by buying all the necessities. I know I should invest in black out curtains but what do you do when you have a window AC unit ? How do you block out light around the AC? Any specific sleep mask or noise canceling headphones you all recommend? I saw a sleep mask on Amazon that wraps around your head with built in headphones. Not sure if it’s worth it.

Doctors appointments

I’m going to be starting an 11-7 5 nights a week overnight shift within the next couple of weeks. When I was working days I always aimed for trying to schedule appointments 5:30 - 6:00pm or weekends. Now that I am going to be working night I don’t know if I should continue that way or change it. If it helps I’m also a single parent, my son is at daycare during the day for now. What time do you all with similar schedules schedule doctor’s appointments.

Preparing to be a night shift worker

I accepted a new job for way more money then I’m making now but it’s night shift which is very new for me. I’m a single parent which makes things a tad more complicated but I’m trying my best to prepare. I start the new job in 2 weeks and I won’t be thrown straight into night shift so I have a little time to prepare. This job is five 8 hour shifts a week, there’s no changing that, I don’t have a schedule yet buts it’s healthcare so I will be expected to work weekends and holidays on a rotational basis. If any single parents have any specific tips I would like to hear them. My question is those of you that work five 8 hour shifts. How do you sleep on your two days off? Do you keep the routine the same or adjust so you have more time in the day ?

Working overnight

Any single parents working overnight? For the entire time my 5 yr old has been alive I have worked days because that’s the times daycares in my area are open. I was stuck working your average 9-5 for years. I went to nursing school and became an LPN about 2 years ago. I’ve been working outpatient most of that time because that’s what works for daycare hours. However I basically have had to cap my income so I can continue to recieve government assistance to cover daycare. At the moment I pay a copy of 202 every 2 weeks. Now without it I would pay about $800 dollars a month for daycare or more. Last year at my last renewal I was able to keep the help by the skin of my teeth. Since then I have gotten a 75 cent raise so I am sure I’m gonna loose the help. Now for how much more money I’m making subtracting the $800 dollars a month for daycare I would essentially have less money then before I got the raise if that makes sense. My solution? Working overnight. My sister and I live together, I just got a job offer for an overnight job where I would be making $8 more an hour. Which is life changing money for me. I would work 11p to 7a five nights a week. My son is starting kindergarten this year. School start at 8:15am ends at 3. I still want to be very much involved in my son’s morning and bedtime routine. However this place is 20-30 minutes away. And I would probably be leaving work closer to 7:10 - 7:15. So by the time I would get home from work I would maybe have 15 minutes to get my son ready and rush him off to school. I would sleep probably 9a-2p, pick up my son at 3, spend time with him etc. get him ready for bed at 7p asleep by 8p. I would also go back to sleep by 8p and sleep until about 10p so I would get an average of 7 hours of sleep per day. I don’t know where I would fit me time in there but that’s neither here nor there. This is the first time I would work overnight on a consistent basis. I’ve been doing my research and looking into sleep masks, noise canceling headphones etc. I would pull my son out of daycare to save on daycare and just have him in school. When he is off of school or when I work the weekends I would probably have my mom watch him and take pay her. I would probably also save money so I could put him in daycare just for the summers. This is what I have worked out to far, any tips would be super helpful.
