Feasibility of GW coast to coast fly and ride trip?
Ok forgive me for my ignorance and the craziness of a trip my friends and I have been cooking up.
TL;DR: what tips, advice, or cautions would you give to a crew of mechanically competent, well seasoned riding idiots who want to buy some goldwings on the west coast and ride them back to the east coast (like ocean to ocean)?
The details: it has recently become apparent that a sizable number of my whole riding friend network have all been secretly harboring some variation of the same idea: buy an old goldwing and ride it cross country. As these things often go, the idea of literally coast to coast has taken hold, and on top of that, buying them in LA where none of us live (we do know someone with a well equipped garage there).
We all have been riding probably 10+ years and have plenty of technical experience for the minor things we might need to address mid trip (fluids, flats, filters, basic troubleshooting)
I'm partial to the aesthetics of the older bikes (1200, 1500), but reverse gear and fuel injection would probably be nice. Any other model year advice?
I assume we'll probably do oil and tires before we leave. Anything else we should check on otherwise seemingly well running bikes?
I know it's a goldwing? But how many hours a day are feasible? 6? 10?
