Quality managers - what was your path?

Been a quality engineer for about 10 years now working for multiple companies. I think I need to make that next step. Unfortunately I don't see a path for me at my current job.

If you got hired as a quality manager with a new company, what was it like, especially as a first time manager?

Please share your stories. Thanks.

Senior title - how did you obtain?

Just seeing what everyone's path looks like to reach the senior title, since I am not there yet.

What industry are you in?

Did you become a senior after staying with the company for many years?

Did you get hired as a senior when you switched jobs?

How much was the pay jump with the senior title?

Does your senior title involve managing people?

As a senior do you have more voice when you bring up concerns during your project?

United Tires (utires.com) - Beware

After one of my tires suffered a sidewall puncture, I thought buying a used tire to match my other 3 was a good idea since they all had good amount of tread left. What I received was not acceptable. The tire had cracks and one crack was deep enough that I could see the cord. The local tire shop refused to install it for this reason. I had to return it for a full refund. They claimed that every tire they sell goes through inspection?

I learned my lesson. Tires are important for safety and be careful with that you buy. I also just learned that Tire Rack sells new tires with shaved tread if you want it to match what you have.

Discount Tire - do you trust?

Tell me if I am being too picky.

I have dealt with 2 local locations and the experiences could have been better.

Location 1 - Took brand new set of BBS wheels for installation. They scratched one center cap pretty bad. On 3 of the 4 wheels the area around the lugnuts got scratched. I found one hub centric ring in the glove box. Looks like they had an issue with it but didn't tell me. Since I didn't document the initial new condition of the wheels, I couldn't prove that they damaged it so I walked away.

Location 2 - Took my other Audi there. Since it has factory wheels I didn't care too much about scratches as long as they are not on the lip caused by the mounting machine. What I happened to see was that one guy took off the center cap and just threw it on the ground while he was standing. It landed face down on the ground so I had to have a manager bring it to me just to check for damage. Those tabs on the caps can break easily.

Where do you take your Audi for tires? All these places by me just have a bunch of young kids working on these cars as fast as they can. This last time they had 4 kids changing each of my tire. I rarely see nice luxury cars at these locations. Maybe they all go to the dealer?

Job hopping - when do you settle?

I got a degree in industrial engineering and have been working in manufacturing industry since. Currently have 13 years of experience and on average changed jobs every 2 years for various reasons including location, type of work, potential, and higher pay.

Everytime I join a new company I hope for long-term advancement opportunities but it just doesn't turn out that way for reasons such as my manager not leaving anytime soon or I don't like the type of work they do.

Then there is pay. The yearly pay raises that's below the inflation rate doesn't do it for me when the new job could pay me thousands more that it would take many years at my current job.

In a way it is nice to have many different industry experiences but as I get older I feel like I need to settle.

Anyone else in the similar situation as me?

IE's with 10 to 15 years experience, what is your level?

I have worked for a few different companies, mainly to get a pay jump as well as to gain different industry experiences.

But I feel like with at least a decade of experience I need to move up a level. Unfortunately none of the places I have worked at provided a path for advancement.

If you have worked for 10 to 15 years, what is your title? Level 2? Senior? Or Engineering manager?

540i vs. 740i vs. 840i (2022-2025 CPO)

Hello BMW enthusiasts.

Been a long-time Audi owner looking to switch to BMW for first time. Currently driving a 2021 A6 2.0T. Trying to decide between 540i, 740i, and 840i Gran Coupe. 2022-2025 model years certified pre-owned. Any one of these will be an upgrade for me. These all have the similar inline-6 engines and I am looking for overall comfort and luxury. The 8-series was my top choice because of its sleek looks, unlike a traditional boxy sedan.

But I am also seeing that the price of the 7-series is similar to the 8. Based on the numbering scheme, I expected that the 8-series to be the top of the line model in the lineup, but the 7-series seems more luxurious. What makes the 8-series special? Is it just an overpriced model that should have been a 6-series? 540i is my third choice because I simply want to move up from the mid-size class. Any comment is appreciated.
