Do wall-mounted room dividers like this actually work? (And other questions from a renter and novice DIYer)

Do wall-mounted room dividers like this actually work? (And other questions from a renter and novice DIYer)

Hi, I'm new to this sub so please advise if this is the right place to post. I'm renting a studio apartment and would like to have a room divider-- I'm allowed to drill into walls, but not the (concrete) ceiling, so many built-in solutions/track curtains are out of the question. There are those floor to ceiling tension rods, as well as dividers that use feet to support them such as the ikea glamberget, but imo they look a little awkward. I'm worried that folding accordion screens may look a little busy and use up valuable floor space. But I did find this:

https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/ebern-designs-hanging-room-divider-with-privacy-curtain-w112635009.html?piid=919403902

Would this actually work?? It seems like a LOT of torque on the rod, like it would want to rip itself out of the wall immediately. Appreciate any advice on the subject! (or other room divider suggestions!) Thank you

Edit: it would be mounted to a stud obviously (any particular ways to reinforce?)

Help with ID and appraisal!

I am new to this sub (and to rugs), so I hope this is okay to post and please let me know of more info is needed:

Size: 9' x 12'

This rug belonged to my grandparents, but I don't know where they got it from. It is *extremely* dense and heavy, and has a more flexible grain than a lot of modern rugs. I believe it is hand-knotted, but not sure. It has some fading from being in my parents' (well-lit) living room for 20 years. It is also very dirty, since it hasn't been cleaned in all that time. I'm lost on the following:

  1. How can I tell how old this rug is, and where it came from? (family lore says "over 100 years old", but who knows)

  2. I really appreciate the craftsmanship and beauty of the rug, but unfortunately the family is looking to sell it, since it doesn't really fit in any of our current spaces, and we don't have room to store it (nor want to bite the bullet on cleaning it). What is the best way to go about selling for this particular rug? Private sale? Professional appraisal (and/or consignment)? Should we pay to clean it before selling it? (How does this whole thing work???) Is there any strong reason that selling this particular piece would be a bad idea? Thank you for your help!

Repairing a Vogue Deluxe machine (1940's?) that sews slowly/loudly

Hi all, this is my first time posting in this subreddit! I hope this is the right place for this question. I have sewn professionally and as a hobby for several years on many machines, but have never really *worked* on them before, beyond routine oiling. I am hoping you can advise on whether this machne is worth trying to fix -- is it feasible for me as a beginner to diagnose and fix the issue? Ideally I am trying to avoid spending a lot of money to have it fixed by a professional (i have a working Singer Heavy Duty I use all the time), but if it's a particularly good or irreplacrable model, I would consider it (plus, It's just beautiful)

I bought this machine a couple of years ago for $20 -- the cabinet is really solid, but when i plug in the machine, it sews very, very slowly, even on full-throttle. The wiring is very old and feels a little warm to the touch.

How would you start to diagnose the issue(s) with this machine, or what information is necessary to move forward? I have not opened it up yet or attempted any kind of routine maintenance besides a few drops of oil. My roommate, a bike guy, says it might be something with the motor. Any advice is appreciated!

Do you think they aged up Baby Jenks, and by how much? Other predictions for her story in the show?

I mean, my obvious inclination about the age question is YES, for many, many reasons (just one of which is the amount of intimacy shown onscreen. Avoiding the other elephant in the room). But I'm also wondering, since TV actors often look older than their "pretend" age, exactly how old is she supposed to be? How do you think the writers approached this choice when adapting her book arc into the show? Presuming she's coming back at all, these questions are probably all answered in the coming episodes -- but still, I'm curious right off the bat. Also, more generally, how do you predict her story will play out in the show?

Edit: unless I missed something in the first episode about her age...there was a lot of information in a short period of time

Is the follower count glitching or has the coven grown by like 7-10k in the past few weeks?

Maybe it's just existing viewers "tuning in" again after the off-season, but it would be cool if the promo is introducing some new faces. Raise your hand if you're new! (If so, what brought you here?)

(Not sure what flair is right for this post, i hope it's suitable outside shitpost saturday)
