Do you think this is a good suggestion to PMO IT/Infra related to Nepal Electricity Authority?

The current NEA mobile application has significant untapped potential and can be transformed into a much more useful and modern digital platform for electricity consumers across Nepal. At present, the app mainly serves basic purposes such as bill viewing and payment, while many important customer-oriented features are still missing.

One of the most important improvements would be the implementation of planned outage and maintenance alerts. Customers should receive advance notifications whenever there is scheduled power interruption due to maintenance work, line upgrades, transformer servicing, load management, or emergency repairs in their area. These alerts could be delivered through push notifications from the NEA mobile application as well as SMS notifications for users without smartphones. Area-wise outage announcements and restoration updates should also be visible directly inside the app.

This would greatly reduce inconvenience for households, businesses, students, hospitals, IT companies, industries, and remote offices that depend heavily on continuous electricity.

Additionally, NEA has already deployed smart meters in many locations. The mobile application should integrate with the existing smart meter telemetry infrastructure to provide users with:

  • Live electricity consumption monitoring
  • Real-time meter readings
  • Daily and monthly usage analytics
  • Online/offline smart meter status
  • Estimated bill prediction
  • Voltage fluctuation history
  • Outage history and downtime tracking
  • Peak-hour consumption insights
  • Notification for abnormal or unusually high power usage

Such features would improve transparency and help consumers better manage electricity usage.

Another area requiring major improvement is the customer support and complaint system. The current ticketing and troubleshooting experience is outdated and inefficient. NEA could modernize this by adopting a support system similar to leading ISPs in Nepal such as WorldLink Communications, where customers can:

  • Raise support tickets easily
  • Track complaint status live
  • Receive technician updates
  • Upload photos of damaged poles, transformers, or meters
  • Get estimated resolution times
  • Communicate directly with support teams
  • Receive automatic status updates after issue resolution

Another important issue is that many local distribution centers (DCs), substations, and regional offices currently rely on separate Facebook pages to inform the public about outages, maintenance work, transformer failures, and repair activities. While this helps share information, it creates a fragmented and inconsistent communication system where customers must search through multiple pages for updates.

Instead of depending on separate social media pages, NEA should develop a centralized outage communication platform integrated directly into the official NEA mobile app and SMS system. Authorized employees from local stations, substations, and distribution centers should be able to publish outage notices, maintenance schedules, emergency alerts, and restoration updates through a unified internal portal. The system should automatically send notifications to affected customers based on:

  • Customer location
  • Distribution center coverage area
  • Feeder line mapping
  • Transformer mapping
  • Smart meter location data

The centralized platform could also provide:

  • Real-time outage maps
  • Estimated restoration times
  • Cause of outage information
  • Emergency repair progress updates
  • Automatic escalation for unresolved outages
  • Live maintenance activity tracking
  • Scheduled maintenance calendar
  • Area-wise outage history
  • Emergency hotline integration

The application could further be expanded with additional modern features such as:

  • Multi-user account management for landlords and businesses
  • Digital service request applications
  • New meter connection request tracking
  • Load upgrade request system
  • Energy-saving recommendations
  • Electricity usage comparison reports
  • QR-based bill payment integration
  • Nearby NEA office locator
  • AI chatbot or automated customer support
  • Support for Nepali and local languages
  • Dark mode and accessibility improvements

A modern and reliable NEA digital platform would not only improve public service quality but also reduce pressure on physical offices and call centers while supporting Nepal’s broader digital transformation efforts.

S24 FE European and American regions now have started getting One UI 8.5 updates. India and Nepal I believe will be the last to receive.

Looking at the recent flood of One UI 8.5 updates post. I believe the Indian region will be the last. But should arrive by today.

This is finally happening; this new company will now handle the placement of fiber cables and the infrastructure of the whole Nepal. This means now, every ISP doesn't have to pull wires on the street poles, making a huge mess.

This new company will lay standardized big fiber cables around the cities and villages of Nepal with a huge number of fiber cores, which new or old ISPs and network providers can rent out. Previously, ISPs and network providers had to lay their own fiber on every pole and places, now with this new model, they share the same infra with multiple ISPs, and network provider, this creates less wires on the pole, huge cost cut off and headache removed from the ISPs side, since now they don't have to maintain the fiber cables, which will be done by this new company.

Also the wires laid by this company are not only in the poles but also underground. Now, any ISP can hope in one of their fiber network and bring their services to that place, no need to think about building a fiber infrastructure in a new area.
