I'm a grad student who has been in college for 9 years, AMA
I've lived in dorms for the past 9 years, and been a student of MSU going on 5 years. Maybe I can offer you some advice?

This is what you get if your roommate dies:
-Some snacks
-MSU branded tissues and other self-care items
-Locked out of your room
-Room switch
-Maybe Pebbles will come for moral support while you pack
-Referred to CAPS
...
This is what you get if your friend dies:
-The news in an email
-Referred to CAPS
-A constant feeling of being "checked on" to make sure you don't try to die too
...
Finding out that my friend died overnight through a school-wide email was the most traumatizing thing ever. I get that maybe they couldn't have known who his friends were, but it still fucking sucked. Two years later, his room is in use again and they've make zero effort to memorialize him. Should it be on the student(s) to fight to have some sort of memorial, or should it be on the administration to improve how they respond to student deaths? How many times have you recieved an email about a death on campus, read a name, and heard nothing more about it? People deserve to be remembered, and I understand there probably isn't one right way to handle these things, but from my experience it seems like the school just tries to sweep it under the rug as fast as possible, especially if it's a suicide. Then all of their friends are on suicide watch indefinitely. If they don't even do something for the son of a professor, imagine how little care they put into a random student. Couldn't we have a memorial rock, bench, tree, anything? A vigil? The response is so weak it's laughable.
I struggle with knowing that I believe in the sentiment of the attack on 9/11, BUT I of course don't support the killing of innocent lives. From what I recall about the reason behind the attack, it's because Bin Laden (& al Queda) were against the U.S. support of Israel and their occupation of the land. It's confusing morally to say that I agree with Bin Laden in that I hate Israel and U.S. support of Israel. Also, I adamently support Palestine and largely ignore the October 7th attacks, but now I see that Israel sees the attack as similar to the 9/11 attacks. As a U.S. citizen, we're trained from a very young age to mourn 9/11.. the same will be said about young Israeli children who will learn to mourn October 7th. I am having an ethical dillema where I adamently oppose the killing of innocent lives (and all lives, really, but if you're going to attack, at least leave it between the militaries), while also adamently opposing the genocide in Gaza. Here feels like a decent place to put these thoughts, and I hope I don't get demonized for these views. I'm just trying to grapple with these thoughts and want to talk about it with people who can empathize with this.
I'll go first: BACK DOA!!
I haven't recieved any financial aid for the upcoming school year/semester and won't recieve a hawk pass. I've already moved into my housing and I'm worried that they'll try to kick me out. Anyone know what's going on? I guess I could call financial aid if no one knows. I also have a balance from summer that I'm hoping financial aid will cover but I don't know if it will because I didn't meet SAP. I appealed because it wasn't my fault, but I never got word if they'd appeal my summer aid. It said there was no option to appeal, but I didn't meet SAP because of a server error, not because of anything I did, so I don't think it's fair to not have aid for the summer.
TL;DR I haven't recieved my 26-27 financial aid and I'm worried they'll kick me out of housing because of it, and I don't have anywhere else to go because I'm out of state. Do you think they'll kick me out?
...for being one of many that had tickets to her original solo tour back in 2020 and not being able to get tickets to this tour because her fanbase grew so much in that time. Don't get me wrong, I love that so many more love her now, go her, but why did it have to be the crazy taylor swift fans 😭 i really believe if they hadn't toured with taylor, scoring tickets wouldn't have been this hard. This is a hill I'll die on.
I found a peach tree on campus but I'm gatekeeping the location. Just know that it exists and it made me extremely happy to find. I hope it brings you happiness too 🫶🏻

I know they always of course ticket you if you're coming from the city, but every time I've hopped the train from a stop down the line like Newark, I've never been ticketed, especially late at night, until tonight. Maybe I just got lucky? Please save the "you ride you pay" comments. I know, and I did. I'm just saying they're usually pretty lax about it and I'm wondering if that's changed.
I think there's a line that's similar to that but not exactly that. That's all I can really remember unfortunately.

I had a teacher read a novel to us about palindromes (I don't think it's the Stuart Woods book, since that doesn't seem suitable for the age range and the overview I found online doesn't mention the reason it's even called 'palindrome', so it'd be nice if someone who has read it could confirm)... the only thing I remember about the book is that the characters - I want to say a boy and a girl - had to collect palindromes for some reason. The book was paperback, and I was somewhere between 2nd-5th grade, I want to say 5th though. It was a chapter book, if that helps. I don't think we ever finished the book, and I'd love to dive back in for fun!
Other details I remember: the book was in English, the year it was read to me was roughly 2008-2010, it must have been a mystery book but i can't quite recall - it was definitely more than a simple childrens book. It's possible that it was slightly less age-appropriate (again, could it be the Stuart Woods book?) but I can't recall.
I want to mail a postcard and maybe a letter. Do I need to go to the mailroom to mail it? Also, do they have postage or do I need to get my own?
