My hotel bike journey today

My hotel bike journey today

Thanks to those who provided tips on my hotel bike journey today. It was a perfect day on a bike. Perfect weather. Ranier was out. Coffee, beer, dumplings, oysters, cocktails, ice cream were all consumed. The trails all around town are impressive. The downtown waterfront and Elliott Bay trail are incredible. Cheers!

Best direction for loop? Downtown/Elliot Bay Trail/Locks/BG to Gasworks/downtown

In town next week. I am going to venture out on a free loaner bike (likely a step through 7 gear) from the Kimpton Vintage downtown on Tuesday starting say 9:30 am. I want to loop the Elliot Bay trail to Magnolia Park then the locks to Ballard -> Burke Gilman Trail to Gasworks Park. I can either ride back to downtown or catch the light rail from UW to Pioneer Square to hop on the 230p or 325p West Seattle water taxi to meet my brother and his family. My question is if the loop is better clockwise or counter clockwise? I want to stop at the KEXP gathering space and I would like to stop for food and at a couple of breweries along the way. Clockwise with a stop at KEXP first seems easiest and gives me the most flexibility on whether I ride back or take the train from UW. But, I wanted to see if there was an elevation difference or anything I was overlooking.

Going out directly from fest, looking a little ragged?

First timer here. Been going to ACL Fest for over 20 years along with several other fests along the way. My question is how is Atlanta regarding showing up to bars/restaurants after the festival looking a bit grubby? Specifically, my buddy and I are skipping 21 Pilots and want to walk over to Jo Jo's Beloved for some cocktails and food on Saturday around 945p. Will we get the stink eye walking in there on a Saturday night in shorts and t shirt looking a little ragged? Our hotel is just as close so we could always detour to hotel to freshen up if needed. Most places in Austin wouldn't give a crap if we walked in straight from ACL Fest though.

Thanks to u/Zealousideal-Lime-42 the box set has a good home.

Thanks u/Zealousideal-Lime-42 for the post giving everyone a heads up about the Kicking Television box set at Waterloo records. I biked by yesterday and it was still there, but I was biking around town all day so didn’t grab it. Was on the fence. Put the Spotify album on last night going to bed and was swayed. Picked it up today. Cheers!

Confirm my plan to avoid Airtran at JFK is solid.

Spending some time on Long Island with the family before returning our rental car at JFK and heading into the city. It seems silly for all 4 of us to return the rental car and then all spend $8.75 each to ride AirTran to Jamaica Station to catch the LIRR into the city. Playing around on Google Maps and the LIRR website, it seems like could drop everyone off at Laurelton to catch the LIRR to Jamaica Station and then on to Grand Central. Then I return the rental car and take AirTran to LIRR. Just hoping someone can confirm that this plan is solid?

Wilco Bombed at Germania for Willie Nelson’s picnic

OK, so my boyfriend and I were at Willie Nelson‘s Fourth of July picnic at Germania amphitheater really there just to see Billy Strings.

we’ve never heard of this band Wilco before…and I just wanna make sure that we were remembering this correctly because oh my God their performance made us laugh so hard…

We were in the back on the lawn, watching them and in the middle of what seemed to be a very boring very low-key song (just like all of them) then all of a sudden the drummer just goes full Animal from the Muppets and just starts going crazy out of nowhere on the drums and it was so much louder than the rest of the song and like totally not even with the vibe of the entire song it was the most confusing thing that made us laugh so incredibly hard and I just want to see if anyone else remembers that like how we did. It happened like three more times too … like a very much sounded like a complete mistake. Like the guy just had a complete mental breakdown the middle of the slow song and just goes absolute apeshit on the drums.

We left with so many questions. Is that Wilco‘s whole shtick? That the drummer is just crazy and you never know what’s gonna come out? It was just so wild because this song that was playing was so low-key almost like The Beach Boys or something like that, and then out of nowhere, the drummer just goes complete 3-year-old-discovering drum set on the drums, not even going along with the rest of the song and it was so jarring. It made us laugh out loud. Are we missing something? Did anyone else experience this?

They are starting the process of closing northbound lanes of Mopac at 8:17 PM.

Just saw the work vehicles police vehicles enter from 45th St. heading north. It seems the unfinished lanes are past the Steck exit. But don’t be caught in the bad traffic. Everyone has been complaining about for two weeks tonight.

Tokyo: 1 Hotel or Prince Park Tower

Family of four spending 4 nights. 2 queen bed room with lounge area at 1 Hotel or Japanese Garden suite at Prince Park (2 single beds and 2 Japanese futons). 1 Hotel is 114,000 JPY cheaper with daily breakfast for 2 and $100 hotel credit during the stay. As I type this out, it seems like a no brainer that the 1 Hotel is a better deal. I also like that the 1 Hotel seems to have a great cocktial bar, as my wife and daughters often need extra time to get ready. Anyone have an opinion one way or the other?

Question about Sip & Guzzle after Austin pop up

I went to a pop up from the NYC cocktail bar Sip & Guzzle last night at a bar in Austin. They had a menu of 4 cocktails available and we tried all 4. They were all extremely flavor forward. A coconut washed negroni that was all coconut. A sun dried tomato tequila cocktail that was super super savory. A mint blast champagne cocktail and a pecan forward old fashioned (the best of the bunch). I found them all very interesting but probably would never order any of them a second time. My question is whether this is a good representation of what Sip & Guzzle's cocktail program is like at their bar in NYC??? Headed back to NYC in July and questioning whether I should try to swing by or skip it in favor of other spots that I have not hit yet.
