Crazy to move with a newborn?

Hopefully my pregnancy continues safely, and if so, I'm due on April 2nd. We are first time parents so don't really know what we're in for.

Our lease ends on May 31st. We are currently in a 2 bed/2 bath in an elevator building with laundry in the basement, but the apartment is on the small side- my guess is 800-850 square feet. The square footage isn't a huge issue, it's that the bedrooms are spacious (for NYC) but the living space is quite small.

If it's just me and my husband, we're fine, but ideally I'd like to have another adult around at least sometimes (one of our parents or perhaps a babysitter/nanny) and I imagine we'll get crowded very quickly with 3 adults and a newborn in the apartment at once. Not to mention I don't know where we'd put a stroller (hallway not an option).

Is it totally insane to move to a new apartment when our lease is over on May 31? Assuming I have the baby sometime between the middle of March and April 2nd? Staying a whole other year doesn't seem appealing, but I'm guessing moving with a 6 or 7 week old might not be a realistic option. Are we stuck? Thanks for any thoughts/experience!

Perhaps worth noting we're in Brooklyn and would like to stay in Brooklyn.

Getting rid of stuff but I don't have a stoop

I have a bunch of things I would love to "stoop" but I live in a small elevator building with a front-desk employee who is there most of the time to receive packages. There is no "stoop" to put things in front of and if you tried to put it in front of the building, the front desk attendant would definitely stop you.

I've been waiting to get into the Park Slope Southwest Buy Nothing group for weeks with no luck (very frustrating!).

I'd love to not send these items to a landfill and I've seen Housing Works throw donations away too many times to count.

My items aren't clothing (random things like an air mattress, a not-fancy but just-fine exercise bike, an emergency kit to keep in your car, etc) so I'm not sure what type of donation place might pick stuff like this up.

Any ideas?? I know these are great stoop items but I don't have a stoop!

Importance of location for OB

Hi all - I am 9 weeks along with a history of pregnancy loss (this is the farthest I've ever gotten) and it's time to graduate from my IVF clinic to an OB. Because of my history of loss, I have a very hard time taking this step without convincing myself I'm "jinxing" something, but my clinic is kicking me out (nicely and normally), so here we are.

I have friends who say finding an OB that is in your neighborhood (ie, walkable) is very helpful, especially later in pregnancy when you may not be up for having to commute on the subway all the time to your OB appointments. How important is this in reality?

I live in the Park Slope area and there are some OBs within walking distance with appointments, but I am a patient at Downtown Women in Soho (of a GYN only) and I wouldn't mind staying with that practice because I've had a fine experience. However, it's a 30 minute commute on the subway.

What is important to prioritize? Or do you pick a hospital first and then work backwards? And how do you even know what hospital to pick? If you live in Brooklyn, is it even realistic to pick a hospital in Manhattan? Or should I just be focused on the hospital closest to me in Park Slope, sheerly based on proximity?

I feel like these are things people think about well before they've gotten to this point, but again, all of these things feel so hard to contemplate for me, but I know I need to start getting the ball rolling ASAP. Thank you, friends!

Hit and run - do anything about it or no?

What would you do? At 11pm on Wednesday, someone was coming north on 4th avenue and made a right onto my block, swerved quite a bit, and hit my parked car (and knocked over a small tree!) which was parked at the corner. The car backed up and drove off. My building's camera got it all, however, the license plate is completely illegible - can't even tell if it's a state license plate or a temporary one from a dealer.

The damage is all cosmetic, but not insignificant. The tail light is totally busted as well as the trunk smashed up and the hood from being smashed into the car in front of me. I have a small sedan and we were hit by a big white SUV. We are going to take it to a body shop tomorrow to get it quoted and obviously submit the pics and video of the incident to insurance.

The police came by (before we got the surveillance video) and essentially told us to just submit an insurance claim. Made sense at the time since we had no evidence of anything. But now we have a video clear as day. Should I even bother with the police to try to get justice? Or just let my insurance handle it?

Thanks in advance!

Just need to vent-messed up with my boss

I can’t believe I did this. I have a history of miscarriage and am currently 6w+4d via IVF. We heard the heartbeat for the first time this morning and we are just so cautiously optimistic. We know anything could happen and we have a very long way to go. I definitely don’t want to be discussing anything at this early stage at work.

Very unfortunately, someone hit my parked car (parked in the street of a city where I live) overnight last night and ran. The car is pretty much wrecked. I took some pics and then ran to my IVF appointment to deal with the car later.

I explained to my boss over IM that i would be to the office late because i had to wait for the police to come and do a police report. I then came to the office about 3 hours late (and after our IVF appointment, which of course I didn’t mention) and he asked how the car was. I showed him my camera roll of car pics and totally forgot I had taken ultrasound pics, so as I was going through the car pics, i inadvertently showed him the ultrasound pics. I didn’t say anything just “oops not that” and took the phone back.

I am SO MAD at myself. It is far too early for him to know and now he knows. I feel like it’s such bad luck 🙁🙁🙁

Anyway, i just need to vent. I feel just awful and can’t stop thinking about it.

I wish everyone here peace and good luck on their early journeys!
