Injured opossum's sibling looking for him

Last night we found an injured opossum on our patio (bleeding, but moving with lots of energy). I took it to an emergency vet who seems like they'll take great care of it.

Later that night, its sibling came to the patio several times frantically looking for it's brother/sister we took to the vet...even trying to get into the house. I tried waiting around to see if I could catch it (vet said they'd take this one in too), but it's way too fast. Looking for advice on what I should do - will this one be okay without it's sibling?

Built a (fake) betting game to bring predictions to your social life!

I was inspired by Polymarket/Kalshi to bring a similar competitive vibe to vacations with friends. Everyone in your private group starts with the same point value and anyone can propose a market for your friends to predict against. See who's the best and can climb to the top of the leaderboard! For bragging rights only - no real money in-app.

Trialed this with my friends on my recent big annual ski trip and we had a blast 'betting' on things like "Will [friend that always breaks his phone] break his phone?" and "Who will win the first game of Jackbox?"

Try it out on your next vacation, wedding, or boring class to spice it up!

Key Features

  • Fully functioning 'markets' built with a Logarithmic Market Scoring Rule AMM
  • Market chats to trash talk your friends
  • New multi-winner markets (eg. for mutually-exclusive outcomes "Who will run a sub-6 minute mile?")
  • Weekly global contests
  • Completely Free

Reached nearly 100 users after just one month and looking for more ideas on how to continue to grow. I would love to hear what you think or how I can make it more realistic!

3 weeks ago I launched a fun "prediction market" game with friends! Looking for feedback and to share what I've learned after hitting 70 users.

Make fun predictions with your friends, compete to see who's the best at guessing what's going to happen, and trash talk your way to the top!

My marketing journey so far (what's worked for me, what hasn't):

The early Apple boost

Rumor is that you get a small boost in free promotion the week after you launch.

Personally, I did not really see this:

  • 22 impressions on day 1 which dropped to consistent single digits the next day
  • 3 downloads (likely just my immediate friends)

Apple ‘Advanced’ Advertizing

Apple gives a free $100 credit to try advertising your app on the App Store. End of week #2, I ran my first campaign following this video which suggests to run a campaign on your app name to help drive natural traffic to your app.

I made a very silly mistake and left the “automatically find relevant keywords” button checked. Rather than my one hyper-specific keyword, Apple advertised Bernibets on things like “instagram,” “game,” and “grindr” (wtf!). After 5 days, I burned through the $100 credit and here are the results:

  • 0 impressions and installs on “Bernibets”
  • 3500 impressions on the auto-keywords, 2 installs

$50 per install 😆, but I learned a valuable lesson! Make sure to tailor your ads to your specific audience rather than let Apple do it for you.

Social Posts

Reddit has been the most valuable in terms of actual users and useful feedback. Following this, Hacker News ‘Show’ also gave me a nice bump. Finally, Product Hunt was way more disappointing than I was expecting - next time I would probably try to build up more hype before posting there.

---

I’m pretty happy with the engagement so far since it’s tough justifying any sort of marketing budget on a completely free for-fun app. Have any of you had any luck with things I haven’t tried yet?

3 weeks ago I launched a fun "prediction market" game with friends! Looking for feedback and to share what I've learned after hitting 70 users.

A bit of background:

On a trip with my friend, I was introduced to Kalshi and Polymarket and was shocked at how degenerate it was being able to bet on literally anything. So naturally I built a joke app where we could do the same thing (with fake money) on group outings!

Managed to get a prototype finished in time for our big annual ski trip and we had a blast 'betting' on things like "Will [friend that always breaks his phone] break his phone?" and "Who will win the first game of Jackbox?"

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/bernibets-social-predictions/id6761561613

How It Works

  1. Create a group for your trip and give your friends the group code to join.
  2. Everyone starts with the same amount of Tokens/Points/Ski-bux that they can wager on each question.
  3. Place bets on the options that you think will win - the more bets on an option, the more it costs to pick that option.
  4. Anyone can propose when an outcome has happened and everyone gets 24 hours to dispute it.
  5. Every share of the winning option pays out as 1 Token once the 24 hours has passed. So if you bet 2 tokens when the odds were 50%, you win 4 Tokens!

Key Features

  • Leaderboard to show who's the best!
  • Chat to trash-talk your friends on each question.
  • Notifications only used to tell you when a new question comes up.
  • Admin controls and other customization to tweak it for your friend group.
  • Weekly global contests.
  • Completely free!!

>Predicting real world events with real money: 😴🫩🥱

>Predicting 'points' on which of your friends will win at Jackbox: 😲😍🤩

I created Bernibets to spice up your next vacation and turn your trip into a tournament where only the best comes out on top! Create a question on anything that might happen during your trip, predict your points on one or more results, talk trash in the market chat, and try to influence your way to the top of the leaderboard. There's no rules, only to have fun and try to cash out more points than your friends before the end of the trip!

How It Works

  1. Create a group for your trip and give your friends the group code to join.

  2. Everyone starts with the same amount of Tokens/Points/Ski-bux that they can use to predict each question.

  3. Place a prediction on the result that you think will win - the more people believe in a result, the more points it costs to pick that result.

  4. Anyone can propose when an outcome has happened and everyone gets 24 hours to dispute it.

  5. Every share of the winning result awards 1 Token once the 24 hours has passed. So if you predict 2 Tokens when the odds were 50%, you win 4 Tokens!

Please let me know what you think and what features I should add to make it even more fun for your friend groups, crazy family reunions, college classes, etc!

Completely free and easy to sign up! Check it out: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bernikins.bets
