The Growlers Interview

Hi all, I posted in here back in May about my magazine’s interview with Brooks. It’s out in the world now and available to purchase here: https://www.theindiescene.co.uk/shop/p/pre-order-the-indie-scene-magazine-issue-2.

I hope everyone who pre-ordered has received their copies! We had delays due to our designer having surgery and my nan going to hospital for 2 months and passing away on my birthday/the release day of the magazine. It’s been a heavy one and it’s been incredibly hard to get here, but the physical copies finally being in our hands feels surreal. If I’m correct, I think Brooks might have his own copy now, too.

Every order means a great deal – I work a 9-5 and it’s been my dream since I was ridiculously young to release a magazine. I used to cut up my sister’s gossip magazines and make my own, had a whole newspaper called ‘K.News’ I would make and would subsequently be the only reader. To see it being shipped all over the world is insane to me. We even got mentioned in my local paper. That’s something.

That being said, if you ordered a copy, please tag us on Instagram or email us a photo of it somewhere. Record shop, beach, somewhere very American, I don’t care. I think everyone who preordered it was in America, so it’d be cool to see photos of it over there.

On the interview side of things, Brooks was unsurprisingly incredibly normal and very funny. Told us when he came over to the UK for the first time a lot of people asked him if he knew what ‘growler’ meant over here. I was talking about football with his tour photographer/manager and he said to my best friend “she’s really into football”, which still makes me laugh, as I really was just stood there waffling on about football while he did this photoshoot.

My best friend and I had been saying our dream interview would be with Brooks, obviously thinking it would never be possible, and now I feel like I’ve made my teen self pretty darn proud.

Happy reading, and a big thank you to those who ordered and those who order :-)

Looking for these!

Hi all, bit of a random one, but I’m hoping someone can help. My dad is turning 60 next weekend and during lockdown I created an ‘at home’ pub (as authentically as one can). The only thing he’s asked for his birthday is for me to do it again!

I was going to order these online, but they come up to almost £30 with delivery. Does anyone know where I can buy individual bags? I know I’ve seen them in Milton Keynes before but can’t remember where.

Thank you!

Interview with Talia ⭐️

Hi everyone, I run an independent magazine entirely self-funded by my best friend and I. We try our best to focus on independent artists, so it was a given that we should put Talia in our second print magazine. An interview with her will be in print when it releases!

Help keep print alive and support a non-profit magazine by pre-ordering a copy here: https://www.theindiescene.co.uk/shop/p/pre-order-the-indie-scene-magazine-issue-2

I have been planning this issue since December alongside my 9-5, so any support/sharing/preorders are very much appreciated 🖤

Thank you to Talia for being a part of our lil magazine 💘

Vegan Food in Milton Keynes

I don’t know if this is helpful for anyone, but I’ve lived here almost all my life and have been vegan for the past 6 years, vegetarian before then (since 2017). At first, I found it really hard to find places to eat, so I thought I’d share some photos/places to get vegan food from in this city. It can be difficult sometimes! I’ve added them all to a google list (here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/rf6ewJv5TWdq67Co6?g\_st=i).

Not pictured:
- Chester Arms: I had fantastic Greek Souvlaki from here & they do a sunday roast I’m yet to try, but complete with cauliflower cheese
- Akasaka: Incredible fried tofu + very good avocado sushi
- Sunny Side Up Cafe: the best fry-ups for hangovers, trust me
- Kam Tong Garden: really nice sweet & sour tofu

Pictured:
1: The Crown Inn - had some great vegan food from here over the years, but not sure what they have on offer now
2: Louis’ in Buckingham - a 20 min drive from MK and it might just be the best vegan pizza I’ve ever had. I had their vegan hoisin duck (a 10/10, I’ve gone back many times and never changed my order!)
3 & 4: Banana Tree - one of few big chains on my list, but one that never disappoints, and thai is some of my favourite food
5: The Three Trees - I’ve heard a lot of good things about the vegan food here but only ever had this last Christmas. It has potential, but did feel like something was missing.
6: The Barley Mow, Cosgrove - warming winter vegetable & lentil soup, also had the loveliest bread and olives before
7: Vatisserie - the shop has closed now but you can still order online (she does some delicious looking cakes)
8: GDK - my first and only time here, but the vegan chicken really surprised me
9: Pho - my brother bought me this tofu pad thai to try, and I’d probably go in to the restaurant next time to try
10: Veggie World - probably the best vegan chinese I’ve ever had. you have to order ahead on the phone, it’s collection and cash only, but it’s very worth it. i would recommend the crispy beef, any chow mein and the chicken balls, but I’ve never had anything bad from there.
11: The Galleon - minimal options, i think the other is the tofu in a salad or a vegan burger, but the satay tofu is a really nice light bite. plus it’s right on the canal (just like barley mow!)
12: Great Gelato - by far the best gelato you’ll find in milton keynes, and their pastry/cake selection is always solid
13: Game Changer Kitchen - it really is a game changer, and by far the best vegan breakfast I’ve ever had in MK
14: Pin Petch - unfortunately the photo is out of focus but this is my favourite restaurant in mk. it’s thai and by far the best pad thai i’ve tried. i’d highly recommend the vegan platter to start, or just get the vegan satay skewers as they’re the best part
15: Canal St Coffee - the same supplier for their croissants as great gelato, so i knew it’d be great. they have a wonderful selection of vegan cakes i’m yet to try. right by the canal too so you can have a nice walk after

Hopefully this is helpful to somebody!
