Selection

Consider this thread a safe space for all our whinging about selection decisions.

My 3 sacrificial lambs:

Wilson doesn’t belong in our 23. He can’t get across the gain line and he made some bad decisions as a captain too. I know he can pull a rabbit out of a hat sometimes but I’d much rather a Hooper/McReight/Bobby back row.

Also felt like Campbell was caught out of position a too often in defence. Was good in attack but think Wright deserves the next crack at 15.

Shaw just didn’t seem test match ready.

Bleak stories

Looking for some harrowingly bleak stories with seemingly impossible odds. Examples below:

I’ve been rewatching the first season of The Terror, and seeing their doomed voyage play out over time is just gripping to me for some reason.

The Banner Saga is one of my all time favourite games for similar reasons - it almost feels hopeless if not for the actions of the player.

Older gamers might remember Bungie’s Myth series which scratches a similar itch for me.

Another example, though not nearly as bleak, is Mass Effect 3. They did an excellent job of making you feel the imminent extinction.

Why am I like this

Happens every time. I start Awakening and don’t even get through the initial dungeon crawl in Amaranthine before I get bored and start a new Origins playthrough.

I struggle similarly with Throne of Bhaal so I think I just don’t like high level campaigns? The mechanics just feel too bloated by then
