Ravel Tzigane ending (not a violinist here, but a huge fan!)

Hello! Firstly, I can’t imagine how you do what you do. I am not a violinist but could listen to your rep all day… I have enormous respect for your craft. It’s magic to me.

Question as a fan of violin rep: One of my favorite pieces to hear and see performed is Tzigane by Ravel. I’m curious… was the piece re-edited or reinterpreted around the 1950s/60s? I ask because when I hear the ending on older recordings (for example, the Jascha Heifetz 1955 recording), at the end of the race to finish line, the last three chords are played much slower and are arco instead of pizz, with the chord hanging over the orchestra cutoff (I love this interpretation). I haven’t heard it performed this way since, and was wondering if there was a decided editorial change to the piece, or if something like this is personal preference by the performer. I’m not even sure if it’s customary to change such things as a personal preference (ie. from pizz to arco/drastic tempo changes/etc).

Something I’ve wondered for a while and thought I would finally ask the experts. Thank you for your time and for what you create for those of us who can only adore what you sing! 🥹🎻👏🏻🌹

Horror lit that could work as a play…

Hi all. Was chatting with a friend about books we could imagine working as plays/live on stage. Horror is my favorite genre so naturally I’ve been thinking about what I’ve read that could work in this way. I know that Susan Hill’s The Woman in Black was a play in London for many years… I bought the script a while back and thoroughly enjoyed the retelling (it’s not the same for a musical libretto but most straight-play scripts can be purchased just for reading). I can imagine The Haunting of Hill House working as a play (even a haunting musical) as well.

I was curious if you all (maybe in the horror lit/theatre buff crossover) had any thoughts or recommendations you could imagine playing live. Ghost/haunted house books are my favorites, but I’m open to all thoughts about this. Thanks!

Women escaping powerful men with their children, seeking some kind of justice/revenge — big character growth books, revenge might not be the answer but where justice is dramatically served

Hi all. I’m looking for books about women who escape powerful men with their children and plot their way back to get justice/revenge on the powerful man who abused them. I’m not even sure what genre. Love feministy vibes, thrillers as well. Thank you!

Funny memory of my late Grandma that my cousin and I were just remembering and I hoped it might give someone a laugh 😂🩷

Grandma (in her mid 80s) went to a toy store looking for SpongeBob merch for Christmas for whichever grandkid it was she’d seen the first movie with. She was telling me, my mom, and my aunt this story: said she talked to the toy store clerk about seeing “this godforsaken film” about SQUEEZEBOX 😂😂😂 and we start dying. The clerk had no idea what she was talking about and she was so frustrated trying to tell him about seeing the movie — “that awful yellow fellow that’s soooo popular with the kids nowadays! Oh come on now, you know!! …Squeezebox Hotpants!!” ☠️☠️☠️ we were on the floor and Grandma went from being so frustrated to not being able to stop laughing too and doubled over with us. 🩵😂 gawd I miss that infectious belly laugh everyday 🫶🏻

Do emotional situations (like family visiting) mess with effectiveness?

Hiii, everyone. I’m relatively new to this journey (completing my first month) but my gosh has it already been life changing. I have an appointment to talk with my doctor this week about my dosage effectiveness… I started on a 0.25 dosage and it stared working immediately. Food noise: GONE. Started to lose right away and have been motivated to do cardio as well. Home frickin run.

I could sense that it was wearing off on day 6 each week, and when I took my shot this last Thursday, I had the distinct feeling that it just wasn’t working as well. It’s not been difficult for me to stick with my routine of healthy eating since I started, but my sense of it not working as effectively on Thursday coincided with my parents flying in that same day to stay with me for Mother’s Day weekend. I love them dearly, but oh man does the stress and anxiety kick in when they visit. I’ve always eaten worse when they’re in town, and I’ve felt like it’s been nearly impossible to avoid the food noise since they got here. They leave tomorrow morning and I fully intend on getting right back to my routine and healthy headspace, and routine is vitally helpful (especially having OCD).

I feel like I’ve been eating a lot more since they’ve been here, but my BF tells me my eating since Thursday is not as bad as I’m telling myself it is. I hate that I can’t properly judge this… like if I’m gaslighting myself or not.

Two things: I can’t emotionally sort through whether the effectiveness has lessened, AND I’m wondering how stressful situations (like entertaining family… which has always been an eating trigger) have affected your journeys. Logically, I imagine if the dosage is correct it shouldn’t matter, but I just don’t know, and I’m terrified of great progress coming to a halt. I’m sorry for the rambling, but I dearly appreciate any input. Thank you so much. Hoping you all are well! 🫶🏻

Hi all. I picked up a copy of this recently and it’s sitting on my TBR shelf. With no kind of spoilers please, have any of you read/enjoyed this book? I’ve (unintentionally) read a lot of bleak and exhausting material lately, so I’m looking for a great haunted house book with that engaging “it factor”…? I dunno lol.

For reference: Laura Purcell is my favorite — I’ve thoroughly enjoyed everything of hers I’ve read. Love Michael McDowell’s work… loved Home Before Dark by Riley Sager, Diavola, Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak, Ghost Story by Peter Straub…

For no reason I can put my finger on, something about Turn Off The Light makes me wonder if it might possibly have similar tonal writing vibes to The Invited (by Jennifer McMahon), and I wasn’t the biggest fan of this.

Sorry for the rambling. I really appreciate the insight in this community. Happy reading and thanks for the help!

Just woke up from a reoccurring dream I’ve had for years: I discover a new room in my house leading to more rooms I didn’t know were there. The first door usually opens to a sunken room and then has two steps up into many more rooms (hallways, a grand foyer space, etc). It’s like the place was this mansion all along but it’s basically empty with a few pieces of cheap 80s furniture here and there. There’s a super euphoric feeling about how exciting this is and how fun it will be to furnish and design. There are always two or so cheap lamps in the initial room that have clearly been on for years and I worry about how long the bulbs have been burning unmonitored.

So, it’s like the place has been this secret mansion hidden behind a random door, untouched since the 80s. Anyone else???
