After almost 7 years my Kobo libra h2o died :(

Yesterday I tried to find a second hand kobo and thought I found one on facebook marketplace. I messaged the seller, we agreed on a price and she sent me her address so I could come pick it up.

She even texted me, asking me if I was on my way.

Once I arrived at the place a lady answered the door and she had no idea what I was talking about. I checked the address again and sure enough, this was her place. Only the seller had blocked me. I drove nearly 45 minutes for nothing:(

The lady was super sweet though and invited me in for a soda (it’s extremely hot here). She found it strange too.

After I left I called my brother and told him what happened.
He was pissed on my behalf lol.

Then later he texted me to ask me if I was home.
My brother and his gf surprised me with a new kobo libra color 🥹 im so excited 🥳

  5. My daughter brought ice cream for everyone!

And of course:

TIFU by bringing waterguns into a nursing home

I (25F) am a nursing student and I work in a nursing home. Today it was incredibly hot where we live.
I thought it would be fun to bring some small water guns and I handed them out to several of our residents.

At first it was just me VS the residents which was super fun and we had a blast. I ended up soaked but it was fine. Then they decided to bring the guns to the shared cafetaria.

CHAOS ensued!!! At some point we had residents from all units joining in the waterfight. Which was great. But those tiny waterguns turned into glasses of water and later on a bucket.

Unfortunately one of the resident decided to soak our manager who was trying to see what all the commotion was about.

He wasn’t thrilled. It didn’t take him long to find out who started that fight. Which was me… and I got a stern talking to.

Worth it though

TL;DR: started a waterfight at the nursing home. Manager ended up soakes and I got a stern talking to.

The result from building rapport:

I (25F) am a nursing student doing a learn on the job kind of program in LTC.
One of my exams is to give a subcutaneous injection.
Those aren’t common at our facility.

One of our pts (94M) had one scheduled today. Slight problem with that: he is terrified of any nursing actions (idk how to translate that)

He has a catheter that only one nurse (my charge who also the nurse who grades my exams) at our facility is allowed to replace, only certain people can do his colostomy care (im one of those people) etc.

I figured I could always ask the pt and I expected him to say no. But to my surprise he said that it was fine :)

I told him it was for my exam and that the charge would be there too. The charge told him she was surprised that he let a student do the injection.

His response: well she is gentle and always works at my pace, so I trust her.

The exam went great and I passed. But im even more proud that I was able to win this gentleman’s trust :)

TIFU by taking a shower with my birds

I (25F) own two conures who are obsessed with water. They love to sit on top of the shower door while I take a shower. One of them is terrified of the dark. (To the point he actually has a night light)

Last night we were taking a shower when all of a sudden the power went out. So the bathroom turned completely dark.
One of them freaked out and tried to fly towards me, but he got hosed down to the floor instead.

I managed to turn off the shower and used my phone as a flashlight to find them. Poor dude was soaked and very pissed off.

I quickly dried off and got dressed. I was absolutely terrified that he got water in his lungs so I called the emergency vet.
Once we arrived at the vet he was still acting quiet and not himself.

Vet checked him and I was told that he was fine, just being dramatic.

TL;DR: my conure fell in the shower, took him to the vet only to be told he was being dramatic.

How to deal with a coworker who lashes out at pts?

I (25F) am in my final year of nursing school and I work in LTC.
I started working on this unit last October.

During my first week I noticed one of my coworkers (F50s) lashing out at pts. Very randomly too and for zero reason.

I pulled her aside and asked her if everything was okay. She said she was just tired.
Then during other shifts I noticed it more often. So I pulled her aside again and told her she really needs to change her tone when speaking to pts. I also reported it to the charge nurse.

Nothing changed. After some time on the unit pts expressed to me that they were afraid of her (which I can understand).
They would almost beg me to help them instead of her. I reported it to the charge again. The charge said this wasn’t the first time someone reported her behavior and she advised me to take it to our manager because she was sick of it too.

So I told the manager everything. Apparently more coworkers have. She said she would have a talk with her.

I know she had a talk with management last week.
We worked together again and she was still doing the same thing. I feel horrible for our pts and im starting to lose my patience with her.

I don’t expect management to do much because this woman has had plenty of chances already. I suspect they won’t fire her due to staffing issues.

How would you guys handle this? I want to protect my pts and myself. Im afraid I won’t tell her off nicely next time.

I will start with one I had today.

Im Dutch and work in LTC. One of our pts is a 93 yo Chinese man who doesn’t speak a word of Dutch except for “hello” and “thank you”

I was eating my lunch in the cafeteria that is shared with both pts and staff. The pt was sitting at a table across from me when a family member of another pt walked by with a dog.

We were both looking at the dog (it was adorable) and then I looked at him.
He smiled at me and then he jokingly mimed that he was cooking/chopping something.

I started laughing and he started laughing even harder. His facial expressions were so funny that we both ended up in tears.
