After a strap buckle failure on my favourite watch, I spent way too many hours down the NATO rabbit hole, with a worldwide search on the best quality-price ratio. Finally settled on a couple of Phenome straps and thought I'd share my experience.

I wasn't just looking for comfort or looks—I wanted the most secure setup possible for a summer "beater" watch. That led me into researching spring bars, drilled lugs vs. blind lugs, fixed lugs, shoulderless spring bars, buckle construction, and every possible failure point. 😅

Sure the strap should look fine, but when my kids are using me as a ladder while playing in the water I wanna be sure the watch is with me when we finished wrestling and jumps.

One thing that really stood out about Phenome was the sewn-in, single-piece buckle construction. It removes a potential point of failure, and the slightly thinner nylon also leaves room to experiment with thicker spring bars in the future if I decide to go that route.

And then the surprise - Phenome is located in the next city, I assume even I can be lucky sometimes.

Shout-out to Ákos, the guy behind Phenome Straps who also answered my questions quickly and thoughtfully, which made the whole buying experience feel genuinely personal rather than transactional.

I ordered black for my Scurfa and grey for my Citizen. The black on the Scurfa is absolutely spot on. The grey doesn't match the Citizen's titanium quite as perfectly as I'd imagined, but that's purely down to my colour expectations—the strap itself is beautifully executed.

The quality is excellent, weave is premium, the hardware is what i was looking for, and despite being new it's already very comfortable. I expect it'll soften up even more after a little break-in.

Ironically, after spending days obsessing over drilled lugs and thicker spring bars, I eventually realised one of my watches was already using 2 mm spring bars... so perhaps the biggest lesson is: inspect your own gear before disappearing down the next rabbit hole. 😄

Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Phenome Straps to anyone looking for a genuinely premium NATO strap.

I'm on the hunt for a womens diver watch for my wife. Should be stylish of course, and the point in such watch would be all night lume just like on the Scurfa, (for night time mom duties) but would be great to have it around 30 mm (Scurfa is 37). The seiko is nice and all but far from the style amd ruggedness of the Scurfa. Anything like this out there?

Trying to identify a handlebar I had around 2010–2011 on my bike.

It was NOT a classic round bullhorn. More like a pursuit / bullhorn hybrid.

Details I remember:

• narrow width (definitely under 400 mm)
• available in 3 geometries: shallow / medium / deep drop
• center section had noticeable backsweep toward the rider
• tubing was slightly aero / non-round
• aggressive angular transition into the horns
• looked modern/hydroformed rather than classic track style
