2018 Kodiaq - Clutch(?) issue from R to D
Bought this 2018 Kodiaq last August/September time at about 78k miles.
Had 90 day warranty, during which time the mechatronic went and was thankfully replaced FOC.
I decided to pay £500 for another 12 months warranty.
Earlier this year, after a service (90k) I mentioned that the DSG sometimes doesn't "find" D after R. This can result in what feels like the clutch being dropped. From D to R is always fine, moving through D1-D7 is also always fine.
It doesn't always happen - better hot than cold - at its worse it waits until you've got 2-3kRPM before it "BANGS" into gear.
August it got booked back in to the garage, now with a faulty heater motor too (no hot or cold air - fans completely stopped).
Garage has taken a look, thinks the DSG problem is something to do with the clutch
Warranty people want a full strip down to confirm the issue. Garage trying to do everything they can with Skoda technical support to avoid this cost on me.
The deal is - Warranty will only pay for about 1hr of diagnostics. A full strip down is going to be about 5hrs (5 @ £150 p/h).
The car was booked in for 1 day, this turned into 4 days with Skoda garage going back and forth with technical.
Clearly it needs to be fixed so in a way, I'm answering my own question here BUT:
What's the likelihood this isn't a mechanical fault not covered by warranty?
My argument is, unlike a manual, I can't really do anything to abuse the clutch on a DSG.
I have asked the warranty to provide circumstances which they won't cover it - they say they take their advice from the garage. I have asked the garage to confirm what the lifetime of the clutch is (now at 102k miles), they say there is no "lifetime" stated nor is it a serviceable item.
= to me that this surely comes down to a mechanical fault.
With no end in sight, and the garage waiting on another set of feedback from "technical", I have asked for the quote for repairs.
Process seems to be - we will likely need to strip it, I have to accept the potential cost of this, they find the issue - hopefully it's the clutch and mechanical fault, warranty approve repairs and absorb all costs.
What are peoples's thoughts?
