EQ pedal question…

EQ pedal question…

Just one pedal short (Boss CH-1 Chorus) and my board is finally complete.

But about the EQ pedal…

I never had an EQ pedal, I always relied on the amp’s EQ. But now that I have one finally (MXR M108), what do I do with the EQ on the amp? Do I drop them all to 0? Do I set them all to 12:00?

Finalizing my final pedal board, help with order…

I say my final pedal board because I’m getting old, and all I do now is jam in the basement with my son, and noodle by myself trying to get tones I could never afford when I started out 45 years ago.

I’m not going to tidy things up until I know that I have these pedals in a decent order.

Here is the layout:

Cry Baby wah
Peterson mini tuner
Compressor
Crunch Red distortion
Tube Screamer
Boss Metal Zone
Noise gate
Into a Marshall DSL1HR/EVH 2x12 cab

Top row goes into the effects loop:

10 band EQ
Echoplex delay (arrives on Thursday)
Hall of Fame mini reverb

What do y’all think of this order? I’m into so many genres of music, so I think this may hit just about everything.

New cabinet day!

NCD! New Cabinet Day.. Is that even a thing??

Anyway… I got a GREAT deal on a EVH 212ST cabinet, to pair with my new DSL1HR, It certainly has the G12H Anniversary speakers. It sounds AWESOME!!!

The DSL looks so lonely up there… lol

NAD! Marshall DSL1HR

My first tube amp. I REALLY wanted a JCM-type, but since I’ll only be playing in my basement, it made no sense to get something powerful, since I can’t have it loud. I’ll be just fine with this one.

Now I just need a dedicated cabinet for it. For now I’m using the speaker mounted in my VS100 (actually it’s a bit more complicated, but that’s a story for another day…).

Picked a cabinet, now the speaker...

Posted a few days ago about a cabinet for the Marshall DSL1H I'll be getting this week, decided on the MX112. Now I'm learning about speakers, since I've only had combo amps. I had people suggest Creamback, Greenback and Vintage 30. I'm 99.9% sure this setup won't leave my basement, so I'll probably be using the 0.1w of the DSL. I love to play anything, from AC/DC to Zeppelin, to 80's hair metal, to Sabbath, Black Label Society and Van Halen, so I'm pretty much all over the place.

So for the style I play, and for the volume I'll probably have it at, what would be the go-to speaker for the MX112?

Resin temp: how warm is TOO warm...?

Last week it was 100+ degrees here in the Northeast US. I ordered some resin from Amazon, and it was sitting in it's box on my porch in the open sun for roughly 3 hours. When I took it in and opened the box, the resin was certainly toasty. I didn't print right away, but it made me think how warm is too warm for resin. Is there a limit?

What cabinet with a DSL1H?

I’m getting a DSL1H this weekend, and wondering what’s a decent cabinet to match with it. Strictly for basement/quiet use, no gigs. Classic rock to heavy metal. Definitely looking for used, I’m too old for new, and wallet is too empty for new. Someone local is selling a MG412A, and yea, I know speakers could be crap, but I’d replace them over time anyway. Is 4x12 a bit too much for basement use?

Also, the 16ohm thing… the DSL1H say 16, but I hear/read that it’ll handle 8. Is that true? Because I was going to temporarily use my old VS100 as the cabinet until I find something, but it’s 8ohms.

Lychee support help

Still having support issues with Lychee. I attached a picture of 2 pieces, the white is FDM, and the dark is from my Saturn 3. I’m also attaching a few pictures of how it was printed.

The warped parts of the resin piece were closest to the build plate. Was it because I didn’t have enough supports on the flip side of the bottom of the part?

Printer: Elegoo Saturn 3
Software: Lychee Pro 7.6.400
Resin: SirayaTech Build Smoky Black

I think I really need help with supports/orientation

I don’t know why I can’t seem to get it right. Too many supports, too little supports, wrong orientation… I just don’t get it.

So this is a part of a model I’m printing. The white piece is done with a Bambu A1, and the other piece is the same, done with a Saturn 3 using Sariya Build resin. Of course I want the upper part to look good, so I orient the part with most of it on the bottom, which is what you see here. But why does it come out so bad??? It’s driving me so crazy that it’s not wanting me to resin print anymore.

Any help would be appreciated.

A sort of emotional evening…

Sorry for the long post…

This was my first “real” guitar, a 1988 Epiphone X-1000 that I bought new in 1988. I used it for 2 years in a cover band, but got kicked out because I didn’t do drugs… yea…

So I got married and the guitar sat in the case, until 2024, when my then 16 year old son wanted to learn how to play. So when I took it out, I noticed the term posts were bent beyond repair. This guitar has the much hated Steinberger KB-Trem, the worst trem known to man. So the posts screw into a base plate that is screwed into the body. The plate, of course, is made out of soft metal, causing the posts to bend over time.

I tried fixing the posts twice, last time being last week, and I THINK it’s going to work. I proceeded to do a total rewire, replacing the pots, jack, switches, and all wires. I also replaced the bridge pickup, a SD Screamin’ Demon, with a Guitar Madness Hexbucker. The frets were dirty, but surprisingly in great shape, so I just polished them and treated the fretboard.

I just finished putting strings on it, and it’s holding up well so far. There are a bunch of weird things about this guitar, besides the trem:

  1. Individual toggle switches for each pickup. Kinda cool actually, you can turn any one of them on/off at will.
  2. Even though it has a locking nut for the trem, there is also a nut. I’m used to Floyds, where there is no nut.
  3. The logo on the headstock says “Epiphone by Gibson”. When I was researching this model, none I’ve seen have that logo, and the fretboard inlays are triangles.

I’m probably not going to put the fine tuners on the trem as I don’t really want to use the trem because it sucks so bad.
I’ll check the posts over the next few months to see how they hold up. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll just wall hang it. Still, it’s really cool to be playing this guitar again…

Why am I getting layered lines on this print? It’s a part of a set of pre-supported files I’m printing out. I get this on other parts of the set as well. Is it due to orientation? Saturn 3, latest paid Lychee, Sariya Tech Engineering resin

Hoping this isn't a dumb question...

I'm not sure how I never noticed this before, but the workbench that my Saturn 3 sits on isn't level. I noticed it when I had to remove the cover quick during a print. I noticed that the level of resin towards the front of the vat was noticeably higher than the rear. I took a level and confirmed... the front of the workbench is lower.

So the question is: will this affect print quality? It doesn't seem like it, but I want to just be sure. I'm in the middle of a long print, so I don't want to cancel or mess with it. I'll make sure to level the workbench when the print completes.
