XPR5550e intermittent mic issue

The mic on my 5550e only recognized by the radio and transmits when the strain relief is pulled a certain direction, I’m fairly certain the problem is on the microphone and not the port on the radio because I don’t have an issue with the PC cable. I guess my question is, can this be fixed or is the mic toast?

Are these USCG P25 frequencies worth putting in my scanner?

I live close enough to the coast that I pick up marine VHF channels on occasion and was wondering if these national Coast Guard VHF and UHF P25 frequencies are worth putting in my scanner or if I shouldn’t bother due to encryption? If it makes a difference I live in NC.

Would an older Midland MXT be a good starter radio, or should I look elsewhere?

I know these models are narrowband only would that be an issue in a mostly flat area that’s moderately wooded with pine trees?

Apparently none of my friends ate these growing up but I was obsessed with them.

Apparently the brand went out of business a few years ago unfortunately :-(
