Searching for a Master's Thesis topic in Modern Turkish History (Post-1928 / Republic Era)

Hi everyone, I'm a Master's student in History. I'm currently looking for a thesis topic. I want to focus on the Republic Era of Turkey (post-1928) because I primarily work with modern documents and digital archives.

I'm interested in:

  • Cultural/Social History (Music, daily life, popular culture).
  • Diplomatic/Intercultural relations (How Turkey was viewed abroad or vice versa).
  • Media and Communication (Early radio, newspapers, social impact of technology).

I’m looking for a "niche" topic that hasn't been over-researched. Do you have any suggestions or "untouched" areas that could make a compelling thesis? I have access to extensive digital archives.

Thanks in advance!

Erasmus+ at University of Szczecin during Master's Thesis stage? Need some advice

Hi everyone, I’ve been nominated for a full-year Erasmus mobility at the University of Szczecin (Faculty of Humanities) for the 2026/2027 academic year. I’m currently a Master’s student in History at the thesis stage.

The coordinator mentioned that they don't have a specific "research" track for Master's students, so I have to select 30 ECTS worth of standard courses per semester and take exams.

Has anyone here done their Erasmus in Szczecin (especially in Humanities/Social Sciences) while working on their thesis?

  • How strict are the professors regarding attendance for Master’s students?
  • Is it possible to negotiate with professors to focus more on my research instead of exams?
  • Any tips for a History student in Szczecin?

Thanks in advance for any help!
