What is going on with the skin of my ric rac cactus ?

I posted in /r/plantclinic and did not get any responses.

It has this tan skin creeping up the base of the plant. I think some of my other ephiphitic cacti have something similar.

Costco Opening Question

Does anyone know if you will need a Costco membership on day one to try out the new store? Or will they offer some type of day pass to let those new to Costco have an initial shop?
