started an estate sale blog

I've been into maxsold and hibid for so long and find the contents of sales so interesting that I decided to start writing about it. I plan to post picks, mostly in the Toronto/Ontario area, but also write about 'cursed items' that would not be acceptable at a garage sale but are frequently sold on these sites.

I will be posting twice per week at antiqueshitshow.substack.com I would really love the input of this community as I frequently visit this subreddit

no time to die apple peeling

In this shot from No Time to Die, James Bond is peeling an apple for his daughter, and has peeled the entire apple peel in one go. The shot starts at the end of the peeling. Does this mean there is a longer shot where he actually peels the entire apple in one go? How many apples and knives would there have been on set? How much did Daniel Craig practice? I'm not saying that peeling an apple with a sharp knife in one go is extremely difficult, but it must have been someone's idea. Or if they shot only the end of it with mostly-peeled apples, then that lacks integrity.

A failed journey

Travelled 1.5 hours on public transit to pick up keyboard, and also hit up a nearby thrift store and got a cool looking drumpad….then find out none of them have pitch bends.
The plight of circuit bending.

Fisher-Price guitar

I have this guitar and a giraffe one- even though there's no pitch bends or glitches on the board, it's set up really well to add a bunch of buttons daisy-chained with a 555 timer that duplicate the main sounds. The giraffe one is all rhythm sounds and works better as a drum machine. This one is more guitar chords, and I like the choice of minor chords.

gamepad drum

The function of this drum was a bit simple (aside from pitch bend, everything was under a black blob, and the board design didn't allow for any 555 timer to be connected). A shame, because the whole thing is really sturdy and there's lots of space in the shell for additional components. Still, I really enjoy playing this- in addition to the 4 drum sounds, there's 5 built in beats. I used my most premium potentiometer knob. The beats take on a great glitchy quality at high and low pitch.

Kawasaki Jazzin' Drums

Kawasaki does not usually disappoint, and I'm really happy with the look of this toy, but disappointed with the sound. There's only 1 set of sounds for the drum pads, and I don't love them. Hitting the pads doesn't actually work great either, which is probably why there are push buttons for each sound. I added some 555 looping so each drum sound can have a rapid 'drum roll', and of course the typical pitch bend.

Larger contacts on children’s camera board

I was able to get 12 of these children’s cameras for $50 so I’m making some glitch cameras that I plan to sell. there’s small variation between each one despite having the same box and design and firmware, and performance can vary between different color models too. some have higher res screens, but the difference is in the boards. I’ve used the flexible pcbs from getcircuitbent to make the wiring much easier, but I have a couple of blue cameras with these circular points on the board. if you have one that looks like this it’s possible to solder on magnet wire without having to use a microscope to solder directly to the sensor contacts. i will add 6 glitches selectable via 3 toggle switches but there’s additional glitches but this way I can use fewer wires and keep that simpler.

obviously it’s not that simple- the drum pad on its own is probably more desirable, but I would still need to 3d print a housing for power supply amp speaker. and the keyboard will look a tad anemic. the big hassle with this is the added cost of 2 LTC circuits to pitch bend the drums and keyboard.

not sure what other mods I’ll add. 1/4 inch audio jack, mess about with 555 timer, maybe use an echo board
