So much love for The Encore!

I love these new songs so much. I can’t stop listening to them on repeat. Every time I try to walk away and listen to something else, I end up crawling right back. literally every single one is perfection to me. Patient Zero is an all around banger, but it also really does cover the concept of being killed slowly by emotional abuse so well. “When the fever turns a dreamer into a pathetic ghost” really stuck with me. I think, especially with the combination of the music video, many woman are going to see themselves in this song. I’ve found solace in it.

Cleveland! is one of my favorites. It’s so fun and danceable and I’ll defend it til I die. When I need to smile I put this one on. It’s sort of like the London Boy of showgirl if that makes sense… And London Boy is one of my favorites off lover, so of course I love Cleveland. I love silly, I love fun, I love catchy. I just love pop music.

Pink clouding has a gorgeous production, and by far the fast singing in the bridge is my favorite part. “I swear to God, to this day I wake up scared that I left scars on a good person”. Extremely relatable, beautifully done!!!

I don’t even have words for Babylon. It’s so classic Taylor. Genuinely such an amazing song. “The self harm of never being where you are” was instantly one of my favorite lyrics. It’s way too cutting, gorgeous, melancholic. It makes me tear up.

I just love these songs so much, and love Showgirl in general (no skip album for me!). I want to put more positivity about it out there, because everything is so grossly negative right now. No matter what the noise online says, there are people out there who genuinely love this album and are grateful that Taylor released it.

Anyone else already on a rewatch of s2?

I binged the entire second season when it came out at 9 yesterday. I’m already halfway through a rewatch of it, and I’m just as into it as I was the first time. I know that people have comfort TV shows they watch over and over again, and this is easily becoming one of mine. I need multiple seasons so bad!!! It’s insanely funny, the performances are incredible, and the cast chemistry is off the charts. I really hope all the buzz it seems to be getting assures FX/Hulu that it’s worth investing in.

Taylor’s Versions your surprised you’ve kept over the originals?

I don’t know about you guys, but when Taylor finally got her masters back I spent the whole day going through each album—listening to Taylor’s Version and the originals of each song back to back, to determine which versions I wanted for my playlist. Surprisingly, I ended up with a healthy mix of both for *almost* every album that has a TV. I rarely think about it now—the versions I picked on that day are now the ones I’m heavily used to.

This brings me to my point; I expected to keep ALL the original 1989 songs. It is one of my most beloved albums, and also of course has that nostalgia factor for me as it came out when I was in high school. I was shocked to find, when I did the side by side comparisons, that I preferred quite a few of the TV’s over the OG’s on 1989. One of which was Wildest Dreams.

So, I only listen to Wildest Dreams TV now. But I wanted to watch the music video just now, so I heard the OG for the first time in a while and… I still stick by my choice! It shocks me, I guess. I really do (personally) think that Taylor’s Version of that song sounds better! Do you guys have any songs that you’re surprised you prefer Taylor’s Version over the original?

Almost done and regretting my major…

I am in my senior year. I have lugged through 3 years of courses for a subject that I’m not particularly passionate about. I’ve found the coursework to be disengaging. I have to read and re-read my textbooks a million times because I find myself not caring. Still, I pushed through, as everyone in my life, from teachers to family, always told me that I had a “knack” for this major (computer science). I just liked working on silly little coding projects, and I knew how to network troubleshoot. That’s all.

When I was younger, I wanted to go into psychology. Whenever someone asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, it was my go to answer. Through several life events and some severe social anxiety as a teenager, I convinced myself that I could never work in psychology because I was too afraid and unconfident. Now I’ve started taking psychology classes at SNHU to meet elective requirements, and these classes have been my favorite part of my time at this school. I’ve found the coursework engaging. I’ve loved reading the textbooks and read them with ease. I haven’t struggled to motivate myself to do anything in these classes. I feel passion when I’m working on the assignments.

I just feel really sad. I feel like I listened to others instead of myself and I wish I could go back in time. It feels like it’s too late now, especially from a financial standpoint. Has anyone else gone through this?

I was excited to hear that Adam Scott (Severance, Parks and Rec, etc) is a swiftie and thought you guys might like to hear what he had to say!

He was recently a guest on Kid Cudi’s podcast and was asked “what is one thing you nerd out about?”

His response:

“Taylor Swift.

Obviously, she’s incredible, but I loved that new album. From her early records all the way through Life of a Showgirl… It’s like she’s created this huge breadth of work in a relatively short amount of time and it’s super impressive.

And her songwriting is insane. It’s like we have our own Joni Mitchell, but if Joni Mitchell absorbed Neil Young or something. Like her songwriting is unbelievable.”

If you want to hear this for yourself, they start talking about Taylor around the 1:01:55 mark of the podcast episode on Spotify!
