Alaska air 25k companion fare, ideas?

I have an Atmos summit card which comes with 25k companion fare award. This can be used on any partner airlines as well. Due to young kids can’t book a long haul international trip but was hoping to use this to get away with the Mrs for a couple nights.

I live in Toronto- thinking somewhere warm in November/December. I have a considerable amount of chase points (Hyatt) and IHG/Marriot.

Any good destinations you guys can recommend including hotels?

Thanks

Amex once per lifetime SUB, legitimate or worth a try?

I’ve been with Amex 15 years and have held probably every card, in the good ol days could churn it every other year.

I’ve mostly just been spending on 2% cash back and business edge (grandfathered). I want to try my luck on a premium card again in the next couple months (platinum, bizz plat, gold) but weary of the once / lifetime SUB. I haven’t held these cards for at least a couple years. Any successful datapoints in people receiving the points?

I believe after applying you can ask a rep and they can tell you if eligible, but don’t want the credit pull if little to no chance.

Thanks

Withholding pay from delivery driver, legal?

Recently I made an order from a big box store, they marked it as delivered, I started a claim as I never received the item.

The delivery was completed by one of these last mile companies (metro, dragonfly, Intelcom etc)

The store then sent me a picture from the delivery company showing it delivered, I pointed out this was not my house but after some time I realized it was the lobby of a building near by. I went to pick up the package and behold it was there.

A day later a delivery driver was at my door almost in tears, he said he was the one who mis-delivered the item and his boss said they were going to withhold the value of the box ($1000) from his pay. I apologized to him, advised him I had located the package a day earlier and notified the store.

Was just curious from this situation if an employer can withhold or take the cost of delivery out from a delivery persons pay?

Are these companies set up as contractors, in that event could they take the money from his pay?

Thanks

Mortgage renewing Nov 1, early renewal option with TD, variable being offered prime -1.01 (3.59%)

This is my first renewal so I’m new to all this.

As title suggests, my mortgage is renewing with TD November 1. Currently paying 6.01 so early renewal would save a significant amount of money over next few months.

I intend to move within the next 18 months. TD offering variable rate of 3.59% which is prime -1.01. TD advised they only have 5 year term for variable.

Based on my discussion with mortgage broker and bank variable offers flexibility as can go to a fixed mortgage if want at later date. Also if intend to move variable is 3 months interest whereas fixed can be significantly higher due to IRD.

If rates stay the same (which I expect for next 12 months) and move can also move to fixed term, port the mortgage to new house with same/blended rate.

Is the 3.59 a solid variable rate being currently offered by other lenders?

Does it make sense to renew early to save significant interest over next few months.

Is there any other information I’m missing or something else to look at?

I have a first time mortgage renewal set for Nov 1. Been looking forward as I locked in 3 years ago at higher rates.

We’re starting to look to upgrade to a larger house but not sure will be able to do so at/near renewal.

We will very likely be moving within the next 12 months. We’re currently with TD (although i see their rates aren’t the best currently).

I don’t want to pay a large mortgage penalty when would blend/port mortgage. (Whatever the right term is)

Which bank offers the best services to port/transfer mortgage to a larger mortgage within the term with least amount of fees?

What should I be looking out for when signing my renewal.

Thanks
