Developer looking for a startup to join

I've been trying to join early-stage startups, but I've had very little luck so far.

I've looked on Wellfound, LinkedIn, YC jobs, and a few other job boards. I've also tried reaching out to founders by email and Discord, but most either aren't hiring yet or never reply.

I have 4+ years of experience working with React, Next.js, Node.js, and React Native.

If you've successfully joined an early-stage startup, how did you find the opportunity? Are there any communities, websites, Discord servers, Slack groups, or other places where founders are more active and open to talking with developers?

I'd really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

How do I find startups that are looking for a developer? How to approach them? I will not promote

I have been trying platforms such as YC’s Work at a Startup, Wellfound, LinkedIn, and other job boards, but not much of remote hiring(outside US).

I have been working with react, next.js , react native and node.js from last 4 years and more. I wanna to join an early-stage startup, contribute closely to the product, and learn more about a startup.

Whenever I find an interesting startup, I usually reach out through email or Discord. Most of the time, they are either not hiring, do not have the budget, or do not reply. I have also tried approaching founders with specific suggestions about how I could improve or help build their website or product but no luck.

I have the flexibility to take some risk so idm working on contract, freelance type. I just wanna have try something like this.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you.

Does the weekly thread in this sub actually work? I will not promote.

does anyone actually check the weekly thread to hire people or find users?

I've been following it for a while, but I haven't seen much interaction. I posted there a few times as a developer looking for work with startups, but I didn't get any responses.

I'm still looking to work with a startup, so I'm curious if it's just me, if startups don't use those threads, or if people simply don't check them.

Do these threads actually work for anyone? If not, would it make sense to change how they're structured? I'd like to hear other people's experiences.

Are there any startups looking for a developer? Where do you usually post job opportunities? I will not promote

As a developer, I have tried LinkedIn, Wellfound, and YC Startups, but no luck so far.

I even tried reaching out people via email and discord but mostly no reply, or there is little revenue to hire someone.

Are there any other resources I should try if I want to get a job at a startup? Where do you find developers , mostly through connected network or have you tried online?

I have 4 years of experience working with React, Next.js, Node.js, and React Native.

Do let me know if there are any other places where I should try.

How Do You Find Startups Looking for Founding Members or Fractional Co-founders? I will not promote.

I’m a developer with 4+ years of experience, with React, React Native and node. I have worked with a startup and clients. so experience in building from scratch

Apart from that, I’ve written blogs before, and I can also help with UX ideas, design suggestions, product feedback, and improving the overall user flow.

What I can help with:

  • Building Website/App , landing page.. any other fucntionalities
  • Pitch decks
  • Market research
  • Iterating design and Ux based on feedback
  • User onboarding
  • Basic architecture
  • Testing ideas quickly and building prototypes

Any other needs.

So if I want to start looking for this kind of opportunity, how should I approach it?

Where do people usually find startups that need founding members, fractional co-founders, or early technical help?

Also, for founders here: what do you usually expect from someone in this kind of role?

Developer Looking to Join an Early-Stage Startup with Low Pay + Equity

This is more like a founding member role than a co-founder role, but I don’t mind either way.

Do you have an idea but can’t work fully on it, and need someone to build it? Or are you just looking for a team member to join? I am here for that.

I’m a developer with 4+ years of experience, mainly working with React, Next.js, Three.js, React Native, and Node.js.

I’m looking to join an early-stage startup, founder, or someone building an interesting idea. I’m open to working on something from the ground up or joining an existing product that needs technical help.

What I can help with:

  • Building MVPs, websites, dashboards, or apps
  • Improving UI, UX, and product flow
  • Helping with technical planning and product iteration
  • Supporting landing pages, pitch/demo materials, and basic market research.

I will be transparent about what I can and cannot build, also help in product site also changing website flows as per customer feedback, talking with clients, and tell me if you need anything else.

What I’m looking for:

I’m open to low pay plus equity, depending on the idea, stage, team, and level of involvement. Something around 0.5%–5% equity could make sense depending on the situation, but I would still need some weekly payment, even if it is small.

I’m mainly looking for a serious opportunity where I can be involved beyond just writing code. I want to help build the product, understand the market, and contribute as the idea grows.

If you’re working on something and need a developer, feel free to reach out and tell me what you’re building.

Is Frontend Hiring Slowing Down Because of AI? 4+ Years of Experience and Struggling to find anything.

My last contract ended about three months ago, and I’ve been searching for new work since then.

I have 4+ years of experience with React, Next.js, Three.js, and React Native.

I have tried LinkedIn, asking in my network, YC, Wellfound, and Ashby google search. I’ve also tried reaching out to startups directly through cold emails.

At one point, I thought maybe focusing on a niche like writing, books, or world-building related products would help, but No luck there either.

I usually finds 6–8 relevant jobs in a week, but even when I apply, nothing really moves forward. Most jobs are also US-specific, which is another hurdle.

So I’m wondering: has AI taken over a lot of frontend work?

Do you have any suggestions? Has anyone moved more to the backend side? I do have some experience with backend and app development, how can I directly switch?

Where can I find startups offering lower pay + equity roles, and how should I approach them? I will not promote.

I have tried YC, Wellfound, and Work at a Startup, but that didn't work

After that, I tried reaching out to startups working in worldbuilding and scriptwriting tools, since I’m most interested in that niche. found their discords and emails and contacted them, but the replies I got were that they didn’t have the money or not looking for anything.

I am bit confused. Should I keep reaching out through email or discord, or does that come across as rude? Also, what should I check before approaching a startup so I don’t waste their time or mine?

I have 4+ years of experience working with React, Next.js, React Native, and Node.js. I’ve mostly been doing contract work for a while, but now I’m looking for something in a small distributed team where I can contribute more deeply, understand how startups are structured, and learn more.

For founders here, if a developer approached you with this kind of interest, how would you prefer they do it? What would make you take them seriously?

Startups that need an MVP built: tell me your requirements and I’ll build it for free.. I will not promote

I’m a frontend developer with experience in React, Next.js, and some experience with Node.js, Three.js, and React Native.

I have some free time this weekend, so I thought I’d use it to know more about startups and what interesting things people are building, and help them if I can.

Tell me what you do, what you are building, and what you need.

For a website or an app, please share:

  • What your startup does
  • The pages you need, up to 5 pages for now
  • Any design idea, reference, or style you like
  • The functionality needed on each page
  • Any specific content, images, or branding you already have

If you need an app or more than that, explain it in simple terms and I’ll let you know if I can build it.

What you can expect from me:

  • A clean website structure
  • A good frontend architecture
  • React / Next.js based development

I will be upfront if I can do it or not, or if I think this is right or wrong.

I mostly work with JavaScript/TypeScript, so if your project requires Python, C, Rust, advanced backend systems, or complex calculations, I may not be the right fit for that part.

Note: I might suggest some people just use Shopify or Squarespace if I feel React is overkill for just starting.

I’m doing this to help founders get on with the little push they need and hopefully connect with people building interesting things.

Feel free to comment with what you’re working on.

How do I find startups that are looking for a developers with low pay + equity? I will not promote.

I know about Work at a Startup, YC, and Wellfound jobs, but they haven’t really worked for me so far.

I don’t mind if the pay is low as long as there is some equity involved, or even a mix of both. Are there any other job platforms or should I approach startup by myself ? I’m trying to find a role where I can use that experience while also learning more about the startup side.

If you are a startup, how would you respond to that?

I have 4+ years of experience working with React and Next.js, and also react native, node.js
I’ve been doing contract work for quite a while, and I’m looking for something more involved before going back to regular corporate work.

Are there startups working in this kind of setup, or any specific places where people usually find these kinds of roles?

Sorry if this feels like an ad or promotion. I'm figuring out how should I do it.
