Hand Sewn Teddy Bear Pin

I've had this idea in my head forever to make little stuffed pins and I finally assembled all the bits and pieces and put this little guy together yesterday. Now I can't find the pin backs I bought for the project, so it's not quite complete.

The funniest part was after I sewed the muzzle down by stitching around the nose, I absolutely could NOT progress until I embroidered his smile.

I welcome suggestions on how to make a neater piece, especially how to do a nice even whip stitch.

How do you organize your tools and supplies?

Mine are just spread over my work table, which is ridiculous. How do you keep things neat and organized? Easy carve cat tax.

Added S&B Crunchy Garlic with Chili Oil to my fish dip

I made this Smoked Fish Dip with Cream Cheese using a can of King Oscar smoked kipper snacks and added a tablespoon of S&B Crunchy Garlic with Chili to the food processor bowl. Perfect. Ate it with buttered toast.

Looking for a history of publishing in the U.S.

Hey, if you have any book recommendations about the history of publishing in the United States prior to 1950, I would love to hear about them!

I'm mostly looking at the years 1800-1950 for a research project, but I'm also curious about how it worked going back even further.

I've read *A History of Newspaper Syndicates in the United States, 1865-1935* by Elmo Scott Watson, originally published in 1936. And I just got a copy of *American Literary Magazines: The Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries* by Edward E Chielens. But I'm looking for more of an overview.

Trout and Avocado

I started with a can of Fishwife Smoked Trout and this recipe.

Used just one can, kept the oil, and swapped a scoop of Spinach and Artichoke dip from Formaggio Kitchen for the mayonnaise. It didn't need salt, it was salty enough.

Spread it on sourdough toast. Pretty damn good.

Before I mixed things together, I had a couple bites of the trout and there was an odd aftertaste. Almost but not quite like a chemical flavor?

Anyway, recommendations for other brands of smoked trout?

Lil Black Rocket

I had the urge to make a wee black rocket to amuse myself, so I did! Test prints from left to right.

I started a Patreon to hold myself accountable

If you don't know Patreon, it's a website/app inspired by the old school way of supporting artists through patronage mixed with a crowdfunding model.

My Patreon is free unless you want to get stuff in the mail every month (e.g., bookmarks, postcards, little prints, patches, and whatever else I decide to try and make).

I'm a poet, a writer, and a copy editor. I've spent a lot of time over the past few years taking classes on a variety of creative topics: jewelry making, sewing, poetry, writing, block printing, screen printing, glass bead making at the torch, gardening, wood carving, and more.

Some things I loved and some things weren't for me. But I've learned a lot about how to make stuff and how my brain works.

I've also been struggling with how to be creative while having ADHD and dealing with executive function issues.

When I'm struggling with something or trying to puzzle out some aspect of my brain, I find that writing it out and talking it through with other people helps me understand what the hell I'm thinking about. I've fallen away from that habit and I want to get back to it.

And when I want to get something done, I need an external deadline and accountability.

My plan for this Patreon:

- I'll be writing about the classes I'm taking.

- I'll be writing about and showing you pictures of the stuff I'm making.

- I'll be talking about what my creative process looks like.

- I'll be offering prompts to encourage your own creativity.

- If I see a cool class coming up, I'll let you know about it.

- I'll have monthly deadlines for me to try and get cool little projects sent out to YOU! (If you're interested in getting stuff in the mail.)

Hey Somerville, have you filled out your census?

It affects your ability to vote!

Per the laws of Massachusetts, Somerville uses the census to maintain its voter rolls.

If you forgot to fill out your census, your voter registration will go inactive. You can still vote, but you'll need to bring proof of residency (e.g., a picture ID with your address, a bill in your name, your lease, etc.) to your polling place and you'll have to fill out an Affirmation of Current and Continuous Residence.

If you forgot to fill out your census, you can still return it by mail, in person, via email, or via fax. Check the City of Somerville website for details.

If you lost the form, you can call Elections (617-625-6600 x4200), email elections@somervillema.gov, or head to the basement of City Hall, talk to the Elections Department in person, and get it done! Note that City Hall is open late on Thursdays.

Related, if you moved, make sure you are registered to vote!

The RMV option to register you doesn't always work. And a USPS change of address form does NOT move your voter registration. If you're not registered, talk to the Elections Department!
