1. Incubator \ 2. How to deal with Rooster problems?

I currently have 7 quails in total, 2 quails are roo and 5 are hens. The ratio is way off, I need to fix this, but culling is not an option (I feel so 😔 bad) and I no one wants him lol.

I have a smaller cage inside the aviary that I used (in the recent past) to fix bullying behaviors between hens. I thought that I could isolate the least "productive" roo inside, he will have direct access to the flock by being able to communicate with them, smell etc, but no pecking, breeding or fighting. He basically will have a watch-only arrangement. Would this be a good solution?

I noticed that my eggs have a small white dot inside, this should indicate that they are fertile. I would like to hatch more chicks and grow them to be adult quails, perhaps with the possibility of getting this roo settled in with the rest of this, imaginary for now, extended flock. What incubator could I buy while being on a budget!?

Am I the problem, or is the nursery terribly built?

I just started my first job at THD. My role a garden associate, I will be moved to cashier once the planting season is over. I went to orientation yesterday and just noticed how terribly built everything is.

Why is the nursery open with no solar coverage? Why are there no fans for customers and for associates? Why is mulch watered (yes I saw people spraying mulch!)?

I thought management was the problem, so I stopped at another 3 HD nearby, they all have the same structure. I don't even want to comment on the inside, the guy that was with me will be working in lumber and he couldn't understand why the stuff was built in such a disorganized way.

(Before people start telling me how some plants need full sun, the private nurseries nearby all have cloth coverage over the entire area).

Am I tripping or is the store so inefficient?

How to restore this lamp?

Hello everyone! I found this lamp on the sidewalk with a sign that said "FREE - I work".

The lamp works very well and is extremely bright! Unfortunately it was painted white, and rather terribly.

I would like to remove the paint and bring out the original color and design. Is there any way to do it? My father suggested soaking it in hot water and then brushing it with a wire brush, but I think it will ruin it.

The lamp has a small chip, and the metal appears to be spelter. I'm not completely sure through (look at picture #2).

How would you build ita shell?

Hello!

Found this old turtle boot scrubber hiding in the patio area. 🐢

It’s metal and the paint and has developed a nice aged look over the years. Originally, the shell was filled with rough pine needles/bristles that would scrape mud off boots, but they’re long gone now.

I’d like to repurpose it into something creative for the garden or patio instead of restoring the original scrubber. What do you think?

Is this an early sign of Infectious Coryza?

Hello everyone, this might be nothing, but I got a little paranoid since I saw my bird looking a little swollen on the nostrils this morning. I am unsure if how

For more context: their water circulation system malfunctioned and they were without water for 4-5 hours , when I repaired it they all rushed to drink. I noticed that this quail had red nostrils (I'm unsure if it started before or after she drank) and sometimes rubbed her beak on the pine shavings, then the dirt and against objects.

Now it looks less swollen then before, however she has been placed in isolation for now, outside the aviary. These are the best pictures I can take of her, I hope they are enough.

I am non-experienced with their diseases, so I'd love some input

Territorial behavior with eggs

Hello everyone!

First of all: happy mother's day to all moms!

Are my quails trying to be moms? I have introduced new quails to the old three hens I had. Of the 4 new ones, one is a rooster, and three are hens.

They are all coturnix quails, and I noticed that one of the "old" quails is extremely protective of her nest. For reference I use baskets with straw inside, and they lay their eggs inside them. She currently has 4 eggs inside, doesn't sit on them but if another quail comes close, she chases it away. Especially the roo.

Is this because she is trying to be broody?

Candle holders for Garden / Patio

Hello everyone! I’ve had these for about two years now; my mother gifted them to me for my patio, and I always thought they looked really nice outdoors. I did try using them for their intended purpose, but unfortunately the summer heat had other plans. (Candles melted 🫠) 😅 The candles would soften and melt pretty quickly, so after a while I ended up moving them to a quiet corner of the garden, where they’ve been sitting since around August.

They still seem too nice to throw away or leave forgotten, and I feel like there’s probably a creative use for them that I just haven’t thought of yet.

That’s where you come in; Id love to see what creatuve ideas people can come up with. Whether it’s repurposing them, transforming them into something completely different, or finding a practical use, I’m curious to hear your suggestions!
