Acurite pushes back end of life of MyAcurite App to November 4th

Acurite pushes back the end of life of MyAcurite App to November 4th from October 7th. Hopefully they push it back forever and never make us switch to the terrible AcuriteNow app.

I can't believe they are even going thru with this. Don't they realize how many customers they are going to lose because of this?!

What company should I switch to?

With the end of life announcement for the my acurite app, and how terrible the acurite now app is, I am legit going to replace all of my acurite weather stations (I have 3 of them at three different properties) with something new.

However, I am also looking for a company that not only offers full weather stations that syncs to an app on my phone, but I'm also looking for a company that offers temperature/humidity sensors similar to acurite that sync to an app so that way I can monitor the temperatures during winter in the crawlspaces of my properties to make sure the pipes don't freeze.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Moving to Nassau County from NYC

There's been a few posts on this subject, many of which don't have clear answers, but with the help of another member on here who has successfully done this process, I believe I've finally got the answer on how to successfully get your records sent over to Nassau in order to surrender your NYC CCW and get your Nassau CCW.

First off, you can email ESPERANZA.ROSARIOCOLON@nypd.org and she will send you over the same instructions that are posted here. She will send you the instructions and the form that you have to fill out and mail to nypd, and then once they receive it, they will send over to Nassau. Once Nassau receives it, they will contact you and let you know how to start the process to get your Nassau permit.

Once you get your Nassau county license, you can get your NYC Special Carry license so that you may continue to legally carry within the confines of NYC. You need to fill out a nypd License Amendment form and upload your new county license, driver's license with new address or a utility bill.  Once NYPD receives it, they will then change to your NYC CCW to Special Carry.

Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected

My check engine light came on, and my tester says it is because of a Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected.

My regular mechanic says the repair is likely covered under warranty, so he said to bring the car to VW dealership for service. Has anyone else ever had this issue, and what did the dealership do for you?

0 Chlorine

So I bought a liquid test kit and have been testing my water with the kit for the past few weeks. All my parameters are in check, except for my chlorine. For the life of me, I can not get my pool to hold any chlorine. My pool is approx 12,000 gallons.

My current numbers are:

Free chlorine 0

Total chlorine 0

pH 7.8

Alkanity 120

CYA 40

My pool is in direct sunlight all day (I live in NY), so I know the sun can have its affect on chlorine loss. But my CYA is right in the middle of the range, so I don't know why I'm still reading 0 for chlorine.

I keep two 3 inch chlorine pucks in my inline chloronator at all times.

What do I need to do here? Thanks!

Transfer records from NYC to Nassau County

I am trying to transfer my records from NYC to Nassau County since I have moved out of NYC. I have called NYPD well over 100+ times over the past few days, to every number I know. Only human I ever got to pick up was when I called rifle/shotgun, but they said they couldn't help me at all with a records transfer, and told me the number to call.

Does anyone have any clue how to get in touch anyone that can help me? I have been calling 50+ times a day for the past few days, trying to get in touch with anyone. I even tried calling the cancelation section many times, cause you would think that someone would actually pick up that number if you are looking to cancel your license, as NYC clearly doesn't want any of us to be lawful concealed carry license holders, but have also had no luck.

I also emailed every possible email and all I get is a kickback email from every email saying:

"Your message wasn't delivered to DG_LIC‐Cancellations@nypd.org because the address couldn't be found, or is unable to receive mail."

Has anyone successfully been able to get into contact with someone at NYPD and have them send a Transfer of Records Request to Nassau County? I would also like to request that my current NYC CCW license be reclassified to a non-resident CCW license, so that I may still legally carry within the confines of NYC after switching to a Nassau license.

Also, does anyone know if my NYC CCW is technically even still valid now that I reside outside of city limits? It's crazy that I'm trying to do the right thing here and transfer my CCW to Nassau County, and NYC even makes that impossible to do.

Thanks for any and all help.

Struggling to keep free chlorine up

First time homeowner with a pool (approx 12,000 gallons). Pool is in full sun all day everyday.

Water been crystal clear ever since I opened it, however I've been struggling to keep my free chlorine up.

So Thursday night, I triple shocked the pool 3 lbs of 68% cal hypo granular pool shock.

Immediately after shocking, the pool got cloudy, which I expected as the shock did it's job. After shocking I tested the chemistry. (see first photo)

The next morning, approx 12 hours later, the water was all cleared up, and I tested the water again. (see photo 2)

Today, 36 hours after shocking, I tested the water again. (see photo 3). My free chlorine is almost completely gone. All other parameters seem to be pretty good. Pool looks great! (photo 4).

I use an inline Chlorinator and put two, three inch chchlorine pucks in weekly.

What do I have to do to keep my free chlorine up?

First time having a pool

First time homeowner here, purchased back in February. Came with a semi inground pool, and I figured I'd attempt to take care of it myself rather than pay someone. Well, I think I did pretty good! When I opened it two weeks ago, it was full of algae, and now today, looks just like this! First day swimming, water is a cool 68 degrees but still worth a dip!

I only have one question that you experts may be able to elaborate on for me. After jumping in the pool, I can defintely taste salt in the water. My pool does not have a salt cell, so I've treated the pool as if it's a regular chlorine pool. However, when I purchased the home, the previous owner did say that it's a saltwater pool, and I found a bag of pool salt in the shed.

So my question is, if there is no salt cell, why would the previous owner have added salt to the pool, if there is no salt cell?

I do have a salt pool ionizer (see photos), but after reading about that, I've learned that that is not a salt cell.

I'm brand new to swimming pools. I recently purchased a house that has an inground pool in the backyard and I would like to maintain and service the pool myself for the upcoming summer. I've done a lot of research searching the web, and learned that I have a Hayward sand filter, a Hayward CL200 inline chlorinator, as well as a salt pool ionizer.

However I'm a little confused about what the ionizer is, and what it does. Below is a picture of it. Can anyone explain to me what it is and how it works for the pool? The prior owners told me that the pool was a salt water pool, however, why do I have an inline chlorinator that I'm supposed to put chlorine tablets in, if I have a saltwater pool? Does the ionizer convert the chlorine to salt? Thanks for all your help.
