To everyone who said that eating would get better closer to a year…

You were so right. My daughter is 5 days shy of 11 months old and lately she has been an eating machine (when she’s not sick, of course, which is rare lol). After two full meals and a snack at daycare, she totally devoured the mom-and-dad-are-having-salad-so-I-need-to-figure-out-what-to-feed-you meal I threw together. Sautéed shrimp, Dr. Praegers Sweet Potato Littles, and some broccoli. Was deeply unhappy to see an empty plate so she topped it all off with half a slice of cheddar cheese, one strawberry, and a few blueberries. I feel like I’m raising the Very Hungry Caterpillar all of a sudden and I’m not mad about it.

Plate vs. Ate vs. Dog Who Didn’t Get Any

Does anyone else’s LO go absolutely nutso for summer squash and/or shrimp? Genuinely my 8.5-month-old’s favorite veggie & protein combo.

Plate vs. Ate: Not Rockin with Eggs!

Croup is gone and my 8.5-month-old’s eating is picking back up again! Breakfast was a hit this morning… minus the eggs. She tried one bite and said “No thank you!” Can’t fault her for that, I guess.

-Smashed blueberries
-Full-fat Greek yogurt with Beech-Nut blueberry and pear purée, mashed raspberries, and chia seeds
-1/2 slice of Dave’s Killer sprouted bread with ricotta cheese
-Cheesy scrambled egg, and honestly how dare I even offer her that

Plate vs. Ate: THANK YOU!

I posted the other morning feeling defeated about my 8-month-old’s journey with solids, and I’m so glad I did. You all were so helpful with reframing how I approach meals and my expectations for her at this age. I don’t even follow any mommy bloggers, but the algorithm knows I have a baby starting solids so it feeds (pun intended, tbh) me content about it often.

She’s been off her meds for croup for 2 days and I’m already seeing a difference in her eating. Bottles are better and she is doing so great with self-feeding. This plate may not look like much, but she ate about half of every item I offered her this morning! This is the best she’s ever done with eggs — I think all of the cheese I added helped (relatable).

To the person who helped me think about serving sizes in terms of their fist: a special thank you. I don’t know why it never occurred to me to think of serving sizes as relative, but it was so helpful. In short, I am just very grateful to this community. I think we will have more fun with food moving forward!

Plate vs. Ate: Feeling so defeated

I know that food before one is just for fun, but I think the social media of it all is getting to me. It is so disheartening seeing babies her age eating full plates of food.

My daughter was a great eater when we started solids at 6 months, but after a month of coughing and 3 new teeth (one currently erupting, and I’m sure there’s a fourth not far behind it), she just isn’t super interested anymore. She just turned 8 months old a week ago, and it’s been a struggle. Barely even wants bottles right now. She just finished a round of steroids and antibiotics for croup and her eating has gotten a little better, but she just seems like she’d rather be doing anything else.

Avoid South Milledge like the plague

Event at the track and field complex has made it virtually undriveable. Consider yourself warned.

Greek yogurt with strawberry and blueberry purée (absolutely yes), one egg with ricotta and spinach purée (absolute not)
