Intermission tracks are okay but…

Doesn’t it kinda defeat the purpose of an intermission if you can continue to vote for intermission track after intermission track. Offering three tracks where nine times out of ten, two of them are intermission tracks with only one regular track is super weird to me. I hope this is restructured in the future.

I only got Mario Kart World a few weeks ago btw, so maybe I’ll grow to like them or at least understand the thought process of being so heavy on intermission tracks.

I don’t understand the Pro 2 controller D-pad hate.

The accidental diagonals criticism comes up a lot, and for some people it’s a genuine dealbreaker. The common way to demonstrate it is the “contra test,” which involves deliberately holding down and pushing the d-pad left to right until diagonals register. The thing is, that’s more or less intentionally pressing diagonals, so it’s hard to know what it actually proves.

I’ve spent time with the 8BitDo SN30 Pro, Pro 3, M30, Switch Pro, and Switch Pro 2, and all of them can produce accidental diagonals under sloppy play. Running through Contra on each of them, none felt significantly worse than the others in practice. If anything, the Pro 2 has become my favourite of the group. The high sensitivity and subtle tactile feedback suit my play style in a way that’s hard to explain but easy to feel.

It might be worth considering how much of this comes down to the controller versus the individual. Diagonal inputs often creep in when thumb placement drifts, which can vary a lot from player to player. Different people will naturally get on better with different d-pads, and that’s fine. It just means the experience isn’t as universal as the criticism sometimes suggests.

My conclusion is that the hate for the Pro 2 d-pad stems not from any real hardware deficiency, but from obsession.
