NLD D1K XHP70.3 R70 4000K

This might be my perfect flashlight. Lume X1 and a super high output emitter, in a 21700 with an OP reflector. I emailed Hank and requested the R70 instead of high CRI because I wanna take advantage of the higher output of the R70. Set the temp ceiling to 60. This thing sustains huge output like no other, and is efficient on the battery/runtimes. People are all opinionated about cree emitters but I can tell you, whatever bin Hank has now of the R70 4000k looks great to me. The tint is great. It has a great combination of flood and throw. Throws a massive wall of light. I have no idea how many lumens this has but definitely over 4,000.. maybe a lot more. After getting into flashlights and buying like ~20, I just wanted one with a nice tint that was bright af and efficient af.

The beamshot is really accurate on the tint from what I can tell.

How do I take beamshots with white balance locked?

I use iphone. Is there a setting on iphone camera? Or is there a free camera app that lets me do this? Everytime I take beamshots I just take my iphone lens from dark to the beam and snap the pic as quick as possible before it adjusts, and I take a few and keep the one that looks most accurate.

I got a fantastic new D1K and I wanna take a beamshot of the xhp70.3 R70 4000k.

NLD x2 lhp531 + b35am

S2+ green w/ lhp531 4000k
S2+ brass w/ b35am 3000k

So I ordered these mid June. Customs lost them. Or is still “inspecting” them. but I emailed Simon and he responded a couple hours later saying he’d resent the order, and to just keep the other order if/when it arrives “as a gift”. TOP notch customer service.

For the brass s2+ I went with the short tube and immediately disassembled everything and it went in liquid plumr to remove the coating and give it a more dull, slightly silvery look. Didn’t work the way I’d expected, but it did a little something. The b35am in 3000k is beautiful.

For the green lhp531.. I had been hesitant to get this one for a while cause so many on here say s2+ is too small of a host for lhp531 and the heat is too crazy. Upon using it, it’s clear that these people are wimps. The thermals on this thing are fine. Turbo heat on this is nothing compared to an FW3A, or some hanklights.

Anyways it’s cool getting this stuff I ordered forever ago! I suspect I’ll randomly get the identical order thrown at my door someday wrapped in tape that says “INSPECTED BY US CUSTOMS”

I’ll put crappy iPhone beamshots in the comments when it’s darker.

Is this okay to use? Knicked the wrap

I scratched up a lil piece of the wrap taking this off my charger. Eve 50PL. Is it okay to use in my D1K? ChatGPT says it can short.

If not, can I wrap electrical tape around that section?

3 ferments started.

There’s like ~10-15 types of peppers here. I got all the yellows going with ginger and pineapple, the other big bag going with onion and garlic, and a small bag of super hots on their own. 2.5% salt. Shallots were supposed to go in with the yellows but I forgot. And I’m kinda glad I forgot. Then I was going to put carrots in with the big red bag but changed my mind. The super hots are gonna be a simple HOT sauce. I don’t even know what those peppers are but I know they’ll be hot 😂

I honestly don’t enjoy that part 😅 That was so much work. The fun part comes later.

Help with ferment I'm going to start tonight.

I have a few lb of peppers, all sorts from hot-ish to super hot. I'm going to start 3 ferment bags tonight. One will be all the yellows, one will all the super hots, and one will be all the rest. I'm doing it this way because there are like 15+ types of peppers and I don't need to make this complicated with 10 different small ferments. My question is mostly for the yellow sauce.. I wanna do something different from the super simple sauces I've done in the past.

My ideas are:

Yelllow peppers + pineapple + ginger

Yellow peppers + apples (probably green apple) + ginger + lemon

Or I'm open to anything you guys suggest.

I think i'll go Ginger + pineapple? I've never done fruit in a fermented sauce. Should I just ferment peppers + ginger, then add the pineapple or apple fresh when the sauce is ready? And how much ginger does one need in there? 50g ginger - 500g peppers ish?

Sorry this is kinda jumbled. Just trying to make a plan so I can bang this out tonight while they're super fresh. For the super hots, I'm going to ferment with just some garlic. For the rest, also probably just with garlic. Then I have 4-8 weeks to make a plan for those sauces haha.

Z1 Artemis keeping the grill lit :)

I’ve only been into flashlights for a few months, and whenever there’s an option I go “no magnet”. But the z1 comes with one either way. Now that I’m grilling and my balcony light doesn’t work, I see how they can be sooo useful.

Help with new high output, fun light

I have a nice collection of 18650 and 14500 lights in beautiful leds/warm ccts, but now I want MORE light. Sorry if this is long and jumbled.. I need a lil help here 😅 I’m looking at: Emisar D1K, DA1K, FFL E04, FFL E07x V2, and FFL E90 blaze.

I think D1K with lume X1 looks like my favorite option. Emitters I’m curious about are xhp70.3 HI from intl-outdoors and ffl707a from jackson. I think this would be the best combo of output and efficiency. I see Hank only offers the XHP high CRI in 4000-5000k. I was kinda liking the idea of the R70 4000k for the extra output. Does he offer that on a secret menu? And how are the xhp70.3 HI 4000-5000k high cri LEDs he offers?

For the 707 from jackson, advise on something 4000-5000k? I’ve heard 4000k 707a is pink. How’s the 5000k? I see there’s also a 707MD 4200k, and another option for 707md 4200k 72W….

Also wondering about the efficiency of the FFL high output lights using the Lume 10 driver. As you can see I’m a little bit all over the place! Any help or suggestions are appreciated :)

Reylight’s brass is so nice..

Just admiring my brass pineapple this morning. I wish other manufacturers’ brass looked like this.. that yellowy brass.. machined look, not high polished. I would own more brass flashlights if other companies did brass like this.

Z1 - My first FireflyLite

Wow. I’m so impressed with this thing. I did not expect to like it as much as I do. The size and overall build quality is so good. Sft70 3000k.

Note: Bending the pocket clip in so it rests on the tube takes 10 seconds and is a must in my opinion.

Best battery for M21A SFT70 / SFT40

I'm gonna place an order for 2x m21A, one with sft70 3000k the other with sft40 3000k. I'm not too familiar with 21700 batteries. What should I throw in these? Molicel p50b? BAK 65E? Something else?

3 perfect pairs

-Reylight pineapple brass + giant mouse Clyde

-Convoy S2+ with titanium short tube + spyderco lil native cpm 15v

-convoy S6 with brass short tube + Quiet Carry Waypoint

I don’t usually carry a knife + flashlight. But I do play with them when I’m just putzing at home. I just thought these 3 pairs went really well together and figured I’d show em off. With these 3 knives.. I honestly wanna get rid of the rest of my collection lol. They’re just right.

Side note: if you’re buying too many knives and want to stop, just get a quiet carry waypoint (knurled one). It is so perfect that it will ruin all other knives for you and you won’t want to buy any more. Cheapest $300 knife ever.

FW1AA + FWAA

My newest flashlights. The titanium FW1AA gets insanely hot… it’s actually unusable for more than 10 seconds on 100%. It gets so hot that the lens fills with steam from moisture in the air after just a few seconds. So I keep it on simple UI. The FWAA copper gets hot, but it’s usable at all brightness levels. I love the look of natural patinas so I’m handling it and playing with it as much as possible. I really, really love the copper FWAA. It is so incredibly bright for a light that size and manages heat well for what it is. I want more copper lights now. Pokelit AA CU might be next…

Also my first Reylight! It was on sale on their website for $45 so I grabbed it along with ffl351A 4500k pill. I was going to force a natural looking patina but I actually really like the look of the brass so I’ll let it do its thing.

S6 / S2+ shorty

I’m losing my patience waiting for my convoy order in US customs inspection for like 18 days, so I’ll share my 2 favorite. S6 has sft-40 3000k, s2+ has xhp50.3 r70 5000k. I love em both. I’m new to this so I don’t understand why we don’t like green tint, but I love the xhp. And the sft-40 3000k is amazing of course.

Pro tip: if you do a short tube on s6/s7, you have to use the o-ring from the original long tube. Short tube orings are too big. I saw a random comment with this tip and switched it and it’s so much better.

Has anyone used drain cleaner to remove coating on brass?

I have a brass S2+ on the way and probably want to remove the coating for a different look + patina. I figured I'd use drain cleaner to remove it after seeing this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/flashlight/comments/1mrr8ub/convoy_s2_brass_a_fast_and_easy_way_to_remove_the/

It sounds like this was easy, fast, and I really like the look of the result. Has anyone else done this? Is there anything to be careful of with this method? Can it damage the brass? Or, is there a better method?

Is this brand new battery ok?

This is an F12 that just arrived. The top of the battery is sealed kind of wonky/lumpy. Is it fine and good to charge/use? Or is that the result of it being defective and expanding?

u/kundalinimaster — 2 months ago

Hey guys, I just got a lil native compression lock and I love the look and feel of it, but it has the tiniest bit of side-to-side play. not really even visible, but I can feel it kinda click back and forth when they move the blade. the pivots screws are really tight.. action is pretty good. Is this normal? I'm afraid if I try to tighten the pivot more, i might strip the screws.

it's a DLC coated version if that matters.
