Question about potentiometers with center detente

I'm building a PedalPCB Box and All EQ. The bass, treble, and mid potentiometers on the "real" pedal have a center detente. I haven't been able to find a single gang potentiometer for the treble control that has a detente (B250K).

Will a regular B250K pot function identically so that the treble is flat when the knob is at noon, just without the haptic click?

Behringer pedals = bad

I'm tired of these low quality Behringer pedals made in their state of the art 3 million sq foot 100 million dollar factory.

Their CEO, Uli Behringer, is German. I don't mean to stereotype, but they're known for being inefficient and disorganized!

When my Behringer pedals break, there goes another $25 down the drain. Trying to contact someone at such a huge corporation is impossible, you have to chat with a bot or wait on hold forever.

When my boutique pedals break, I don't get the runaround or have to dial a 1-800 number...because I know they went out of business several years ago. Much better customer experience overall.

First builds since taking a break from the hobby a few years ago.

Acapulco gold, a comically large true bypass looper, and a more convenient sized looper that I made for my friend.

Are the LED and resistor backward in this diagram?

Building a true bypass looper. I realized in the diagram I'm using for a reference the LED positive is connected directly to the DC jack with the resistor connected to the footswitch. This seems wrong, but I'm an idiot and wanted to double check.

Conspiracy theory subculture is no longer anti-authoritarian.

I grew up reading guys like Bill Cooper and Michael Ruppert and would surf forums like ATS in the early 2000's. There were many different "flavors" of conspiracy theorist: the survivalist dude who would shop at military surplus stores, hippies into psychedelics that swore they were abducted, 9/11 truth seekers, etc. The one thing they all had in common though was that they had a DEEP distrust of the federal government and other societal power structures.

Nowadays whenever I visit online conspiracy communities, I feel the general vibe is far different than what it used to be. Pro-organized religion, pro-government, and people will regurgitate corporate talking points for free. Many forums are inundated with nonsense about celebrities and Tipper Gore style moral alarmism.

Back in the day if someone said they were a conspiracy theorist, there was this connotation that they lived off the grid in an RV with their ten dogs and they spent their free time mapping out cave systems near their home. Now being a conspiracy theorist just means you're really into podcasts and have strong feelings about high school sports.

What happened that caused this change? Conspiracy theories going mainstream after COVID causing an influx of normies? Elgin AFB botnet shitposting to bury actual conspiracies? Or am I just insane and nobody else has noticed this trend?

Backrooms: decent film, poor writing.

WARNING SPOILERS BELOW:

Was very excited to see this film and typically love whatever A24 distributes. I'm not very familiar with the lore of Backrooms, but I know about the original creepypasta and I've seen the first YouTube video Kane Parsons created for it and it's a great premise.

First I'd like to mention the things I enjoyed:

  • The opening sequence after the found footage stops playing and you see the reflection of people in lab coats silently sitting in the reflection of the CRT display...honestly one of my favorite shots I've ever seen in a film. So good.
  • Chiwetel Ejiofor had such a commanding presence on screen, he was a lot of fun to watch. Going to be checking out 12 Years a Slave this weekend.
  • The set design and audio were excellent. Especially the Christmas tree room and the laundry room.
  • Dinner scene was like an homage to Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
  • The design of Cap'n Clark was awesome. Reminded me a lot of the puppets in the film Abruptio.
  • Mark Duplass

And the stuff I did not enjoy:

  • The underlying themes were very ham-handed. Clark chooses not to deal with his grief/trauma, Backrooms kills him. Dr. Kline lets go of her grief and escapes. I almost groan nowadays when a horror film does something like this. Grief can be a good plot device (like Talk to Me), but oftentimes it seems like a lazy way of adding depth to characters or it serves as a deus ex machina.
  • The character of Dr. Kline really wasn't necessary. Most of the therapy scenes were just a poorly disguised exposition dump. Splitting the film between two protagonists killed some of the momentum. We could have inferred that Clark was having mental health/marriage issues by the fact that he was drinking heavily and living in the furniture store.
  • The transition to he 3rd act felt rushed and it's unclear how long Clark has been in the backrooms. We do see a small pile of mail at the entrance to the store and Dr. Kline makes some comment about how Clark must have been in there for a long time, but they could have made Clark's beard and hair longer or roughed up his clothing a bit to illustrate this better.
  • Overall, I think this introspective melodrama about grief was a poor fit for the Backrooms premise and I think it would've been a more engaging story if it had taken a similar approach as the movies Cube (1997) or The Descent and focused entirely on Clark and his employees escaping their predicament.
  • The film is set in 1990, but Clark is seen drinking Jim Beam Apple which wasn't released until 2015. Ruined all suspension of disbelief for me.

If it wasn't already bad enough that he plays the Devil's music (blues)....now he's pushing polytheism onto our children

As a fan, I'm very disappointed. Not sure why music has to be so political or why Joe feels the need to push his agenda. I'm OK with the rainbow knobs, but then you want to rub it in my face that you like to worship Poseidon and Demeter???

Demo track here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzMWecjcBcE

I picked this pedal up about a month ago. This was actually the 2nd guitar pedal I ever owned (after the DigiTech Metal Master) in the early 2000's. I only had it for like a week and it was either stolen by a neighbor or my mom pawned it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It was pretty nostalgic to see the parental advisory stickers and mentions of Carcass and Pungent Stench in the manual. The guy I bought it from even still had the original battery it came with.

I had always assumed this was a clone of the BOSS HM-2, but they really sound nothing alike. I'm not sure it will remain on my pedalboard, mostly because it's inconvenient for recording purposes and I prefer to record a clean-ish raw guitar tone and then add on an amp sim for heavier distortion later because it's much more forgiving vs. dialing in a very distorted tone and hoping you got it right (and then needing to aggressively EQ or re-record parts later).

If I still played music with others and had a clean solid state amp I would run this bad boy every day. There is no gain knob, it's always at max gain. The distortion is very "snarly" sounding if that makes sense, and kind of reminds me of the guitar tone from the first 3 or 4 Cannibal Corpse albums. If you liked old Crate amps, this pedal is probably for you.

Details about the track recorded with this pedal:

Boosted the rhythm parts with a BOSS SD-1 and the lead guitar at the end with a Pro Co RAT.

Guitars used an OwnHammer Mesa Boogie 4x12 IR and delay/reverbs from Line 6 Helix. Bass was Line 6 Helix and drums were the Ugritone Drums Against Humanity plug-in.
