Blicavs' importance to Geelong for such a long time, and what happens when he's gone?
Just a random thought that's been simmering away in my head today.
The other day on the Agenda Setters, I think it was, they were highlighting the amount of work that Blicavs did all around the ground, and especially in the ruck, playing almost a tagging role on Max Gawn.
This really supports my view of many years that Blitz is arguably Geelong's most important player when it comes to stability around the ground, and it's been that way for half a decade.
I may be wrong in saying this, but I feel that whenever he isn't in the team, it hurts us really badly.
Now, this guy's 35 and though i feel that he definitely deserves another year on a contract, there's someone who (though probably has a little ways to go to get to his level) is pinned as the Blicavs replacement.
And that is (maybe obviously to some) Sam DeKoning. As much as I used to hate him playing the ruck role, he has gotten better year after year, and it definitely feels like a plan of transition to me thats developed over a few years. Him playing that unicorn role in the years to come under Chris Scott has been written on the wall for a few years now.
